Filipino, Philippines "Dancing Inmates" from Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC), a maximum security prison, were treated to a visit by Michael Jacksons long-time choreographer Travis Payne and dancers Daniel Celebre and Dres Reid to learn performances from THIS IS IT.

I love this video, but I am uncomfortable with the fact that inmates were used...it seems very likely that they were "convinced" to take part by unethical means.......in other words, it seems like they were essentially used as slave labor to make this epic video. 1. they were sentenced to prison not death and they are still human beings. 2. you dont know what they are in for. obviously the warden and guards felt they earned the privilege of participating in the program 3. privileges and programs help the prison keep control of the prisoners. If they have nothing to work toward earning that's when riots and behavior problems crop up. someone with absolutely nothing to lose has no leverage to hold onto.

Just watched their story on SBS and how this came about. Absolutely brilliant. 70% are murderers and rapists who'd had no hope of rehabilitation. The prison was a violent gang riddled world with corrupt guards, plenty of drugs etc. To go from that to this....outstanding.

People should be rehabilitated when possible, not shut away. This gives prison a purpose. I’m sure many of these men had no idea they could dance. Instead of spending every day wasting away, learning this dance and routine gives some sort of meaning to what is otherwise a terrible existence, the life of a prisoner.

Every year I’ve binged Michael Jackson and the Jackson 5 on KZbin. Once I saw them on the Carol Burnett show and she referred to them as brownies. My jaw absolutely dropped, because I had never heard that before, but it sounded incredibly demeaning, especially for oldest ones. MJ was forced to be an adult at six. I think he got a clear picture of human "categories," even internationally. My dad saw the Jackson 5 getting on a plane in Germany. I mean they went everywhere. Idk I think black people have always gotten it but not white people. I had an MJ poster on my wall in high school. It’s the only poster I ever had and oddly I didn’t know he was black. like I never realized it until I saw his family and hearing him talk about his life. The three foreigners at the front were from the US. The inmates' THRILLER dance video went viral, and MJ's choreographer, the one at the front and center saw the video, and decided to flew to the Philippines with his other 2 dancer friends to shoot a music video in honor of MJ. The regular dance routines that the inmates were doing was instituted by the prison director as a form of therapy and were uploaded on KZbin. The front is Michael's dance instructor and the two are Michael's dancers. It was Michael's dream to make a video and dance with the inmates. These inmates were so famous on KZbin that's why Michael himself wanted to dance with them in Cebu City, Philippines upon seeing the clip entitled Thriller by the dancing inmates. Do watch the interview covered by CNN. The practice was just a few hours in 2 days. Just 2 days. It is easy for these inmates because they're a fan of MJ and at the same time, Filipinos love to sing and dance. It runs in their blood.
