I think they’d have to be trained. It’s what makes the most sense, and would also help prevent injuries when working with molten sugar. 😬

Nope, candy making isn’t something you can just learn to do - either you’re born with it or you’re not. Approximately 1 person out of every 500,000 is born with the ability to make candy like this (these individuals are known nowadays as candypeople; historically they were called candymen) - the hardest part of running a candy manufacturing plant is just finding enough candypeople to make the stuff!

I am amazed that makers guesstimate the volumes required for each color and the order of the colors added in combinations for each design. What's more amazing is the collaboration of the staff working in unison with each other.

The pink candy (after it was pulled) looked like a giant ball of bubblegum to me. 😊 I also love the sound of the color bubbling and sizzling when you mix in the color. This whole process is extremely satisfying and cathartic to watch! 😅☺️🙃

The coloring has some water in it. It’s the water that boils away when mixed due to the temperature of the sugar.
