Our local fish and chip shop was run by a Maltese man named Jerry. My siblings and I used to make up lots of funny jokes about Jerry. These were the days when fish and chips were wrapped in grease proof paper, and then tons of newspaper.

The only thing missing from the old school fish and chips was a cigarette in the mouth!! I remember back in the days, this one owner used to smoke whilst he was filleting. I asked him what the fk was he doing... he replied by saying, relax it’s gonna be smoked! True story 😂

As a Greek Australian I can concur this is exactly what happened at every Greek take away I’ve been to. Just curious as to why the old man is not reading the ellinikos kirikas newspaper. It’s a real shame that these take aways are all but extinct. Thankfully in the southern highlands there’s still some left but still.

I was waiting in a chip shop in the uk once just like this, in amongst a mega inter family argument I heard a massive scream, some polish chick serving fainted and hit the deck. Turned out the old bloke had slipped and put his arm straight into the frier. I just stood up and looked at him in the eyes. He just said ‘not again’ and started wrapping it in glad wrap. Strange night. I drove him to hospital. Never got my fish and chips and never went back.

My great grandfather Benjamin Searra opened the first fish and chip shop in South Africa - he was from Spain, but still in that era ... hilarious - the hairdos!

Ok! How and why should that not become a TV series? FUCK I'd binge that. On SBS or 7mate, who is giving them the pilot? It could be the next Fat Pizza 😎
