Hello! Part 3 of the series so far. I am loving doing this, it has really saved us a lot of money so far AND made us a little bit more experimental with our meals. Are you doing the same as us? If so, any tips?? ☺☺
@helenmckeown74302 жыл бұрын
Doing the same Sophie whilst also prepping a bit in anticipation of prices inflating on the likes of pasta, rice, oil etc. Like you, we had plenty of food in the fridge, freezer, pantry but then would still go out and buy more because I wasn't meal planning effectively. we are a family of 4, 2 adult/ 2 teens. Last two weeks, I have made food stretch a whole lot further and have had far less waste. I'm also making packs of meat e.g family pack of chicken breast, stretch over 2 days / 2 meals instead of using it in just 1..bulking each meal up with veggies..I'm wasting less, using up my veg and everyone is still satisfied. thanks for the inspiration 💓😘

Loving this series. To be fair I would do this but we don't actually have anything in the freezer to use up. We tend to eat what we buy but I feel there probably is still ways I could do better x

Hi Sophie, yes it's good to save money, I have been using up food in the freezer for the past 6 weeks, only been out and bought what I needed and fresh veg. we do eat meat occasionally so I have cut the pork in half and made 5 joints in total which will last us another 6 weeks, I tried the mushroom leek and pea pasta it was amazing. many thanks for sharing your meals with us. xxx I normally buy chicken breasts portions from Aldi, divide them up and make 5 meals from them. this saves us money. xxx

Great series. Just a few observations to help you save even more money. For dried spices and herbs you should get thru. From Asian/Indian supermarket or the section in Tesco/Asda/Sainsbury's - you can get big bags for less then £1 so pence per gram so much cheaper than the jars. Just refill into spice jars or reuse jam/peanut butter jars. The asparagus/raspberries/strawberries were so expensive because they are not in season and all imported. They will be cheaper when British and in season (only a few weeks weeks to wait now). Also frozen berries are so much cheaper - why did you buy fresh raspberries when you had frozen in the freezer? Just thought I would share some tips to save even more money.
@Sopherina2 жыл бұрын
Brilliant tips RE the spices and herbs!! I am not sure why I have not done that yet, considering how expensive buying branded items are! Thank you for this 👏 The frozen berries are quite often a lot more sour that buying fresh - which is why I bought both. Although, buying in season is something I normally do and I 100% vouch for, will be sticking to that in the future!

I am working my way through as well, one tip is for some items to wait till it comes on sale if a more speciality or pantry item, and if I want to make a recipe but missing one or two ingredients I try and see what I could use instead.

The problem is buying the turmeric, yogurt, paprika, etc… the first time to do it that way the low cost meal becomes expensive. If not used up it is expensive.
