Sophia Bush (One Tree Hill, Incredibles 2) joins me this week for a terrific conversation concerning the systematic idea of love and relationships.
Sophia comments on the controversy surrounding the creator of One Tree Hill and how it truly delayed a wonderful and healthy relationship between her and her cast mates.
We also discuss how Sophia’s relationship with her parents furthered her maturity levels early on in her life, her superior dog training skills, and the idea of love before prefrontal cortex development.

As an OTH fan, I am SO GLAD Sophia, Hilarie, and Joy have reclaimed the show. For years, I felt so conflicted about loving the show because of the crap the women went through. Sophia is just simply incredible! She's so intelligent and articulate.

I see what you mean, but it doesn't change the fact that Mark Schwahn created the show and the characters, was the showrunner for its entire run and wrote or co-wrote 75 out of the 187 episodes. As terrible a person as he may be, it's undeniable that his work is a major reason of what people love about the series.

She would be a great person to talk with about the meaning of life, but not so sure about a party. The humor Michael tried to infuse into the interview was not matched. There were multiple times he tried to joke or deflect when she tried to go deep, and it just felt a bit off. Maybe not uncomfortable, but definitely off. I respect her for not wanting to talk about her ex and shifting the topic, but it seemed like she wouldn’t let Michael do the same.

When she says we need to ask what we’re looking for in marriage to reevaluate these systems we’ve romanticized. Girl preach. She nails this. It says so much about our society that we pressure women (not in this interview) about marital status when it’s a broken system and people go in to it not appreciating the deep commitment it is. People are more than their relationship status

She is so much more than an actress. I have really never seen any of her entertainment work outside of The Hitcher remake and a vague memory of her former marriage, but I'm very glad I got the chance to hear her share. I don't perceive that Michael was so willing to hear her initially. He seemed reasonably defensive, but it quickly became micro aggressive. She talked him through it like a sincere, empathic, mature adult.

Loving it! Your parents love you and its evident they weren't the best versions of themselves while they raised you. Its hard for anyone to accept their faults and just because they won't accept them to you doesn't mean they are not aware of it. They are simply so overwhelmed by the hurt they could possibly caused you, they rather deny it. Some of us will never be able to have the deep and real conversations with our family that are often so needed to overcome a lot of trauma, however, we must accept they are human, that it's simply too hard for them, because they themselves have not overcome the severity of their own trauma and we just have to accept and let go in order for us to move on and have healthier lives. 💗💗💗

What I love about this show is that these are real conversations. They leave so much in that I think others would edit out. So many times you hear "We can edit that out" and they don't. This conversation at the end about Ryan being unhappy with Michael for making a possibly poor decision re: Covid health (in hindsight) - and they left it in. It's helpful for people to hear things like this. We think about our health and situation - but there's the impact to the people around us as well. Thanks for leaving it in boys. Honesty and truth are so important. Well done again!

Also her way of introducing family meetings to deal and work on herself and her traumas with her parents.. and it's a good idea to start Empathy Education since preschool till high school. She is so brilliant in her answers. And I absolutely agree about being realistic with relationships. Too often when we do not have a good example of a healthy relationship at home, we turn to movies and TV and novels to tell us what love should be. Even Sophia’s acknowledgement of her imperfections makes her somehow an ideal person to hang with. Her choice of acting seems now to be an inevitability simply because she has the ability to do with her talents what Bruce Lee used to say regarding water taking whatever form the vessel is. She can be serious or funny, insightful or clueless, seemingly all-knowing and yet is more than willing to admit that she has much, much, much more to learn about certain things in life. Sophia’s so multi-faceted, she a real-life Incredible without completely realizing it most of the time!

Great episode! Really improves my day in the f***ing information centre where I have to deal with total jerks. 🤣🤣 Working with people is always hard.

I knew exactly zero about Sophia Bush before this podcast. I am now a fan. I would love to sit and talk nerdy psychology and history with her some day!

I really love her evolution as a woman and as an artist. She has a way of stepping back from things that is incredible. She is a great example of intelligence, beauty and positive vibes. She’s is unbelievably smart and so down to earth. She’s my favorite human being.

41:55 when he says “phew that gives me anxiety”… uh yeah. That’s an understatement. I had a knot in my throat with tears starting…. Just because of the shear thought of it.. but really good ideas and advice here.

In general its harder to watch OTH show again knowing all of this. But then the added disgust of when Mark makes appearances himself! (hes the record store owner for those who dont know) and he's always supposed to come off as the sympathetic, knowledgeable, caring guy. I just rewatched the episode after Lindsey and Lucas' failed wedding. And mark is there with Peyton being a shoulder to cry on and offer advice. And I just cant separate the monster from the character. I just cant stop seeing how good Hilarie Burton is as an actress to film that scene and not show being disgusted. She's the only one I think to get these scenes with him, she must have hated it.

@@francheska3128 mark Schwan' is the show creator and the ones that the ladies usually talk about being a monster. He makes appearances in the show sometimes (the record store owner) It's hard to rewatch the show with those scenes now.

Hey Michael I met you once at dragoncon, real genuine guy! You put all my loveS Michael we had a good laugh. Always a fan, you can also do whatever you want, all the things you told sophia can be applied to you as long as you keep your head up, I have 9 herniations and have gotten one surgery so far, and pain taking control of your life is awful, not many understand. I'm sorry you go through the same as me. Take care of yourself Geneva
