the cost ... 1 college course is usually 3 credits, 1 average college credit is around $300+ US dollars, Sophia Learning is "All you can eat" for $100 month. Meaning for $100 a month you could finish as many courses (most are 3 credits per each) you want/can get done. Isn't about quality or time, is all about getting cheaper way to access a degree. If you will really have the money and time to wait years for a degree, then you will not even know Sophia exists.

I totally get your point. I prefer hacking through Universities, but also getting funding through scholarships and grants. Anyone can get scholarships. It's crazy, but you can actually do it faster, and pay less than even Sophia. But also walk away with a better degree. I've had students earn Bachelor's Degrees in 3 months with ZERO 3rd party credits, and also pay zero in tuition. So, I totally understand the intrigue of $100 per month... But if you play your cards right, you can have a stronger degree, from better schools, without having 3rd party exams on your transcripts, but still pay zero... and actually end up faster than the 3rd party method.

Bro, you just contradicted yourself and the whole point of your channel. If you can't knock out a large portion of the degree from third party sources, what's the point of choosing competency based schools and how would they be "hackable"?
@9monthcollegegrad-ryansway671
@9monthcollegegrad-ryansway671 8 ай бұрын
To my knowledge, I'm the first to use the term "Degree Hacking". And it's definition is not to take some of your classes through 3rd parties. I don't get how that's "Hacking". That's just taking classes somewhere else. Another dude from another channel started using the term "College Hacking" after hearing me use "Degree Hacking". His definition is to take classes through 3rd parties. But we're talking about 2 different things. I totally get the confusion though... Wish that dude didn't copy my phrase 😂.. Not cool, right?! I'm a much bigger fan of testing out of classes inside of these schools. Not through 3rd parties. And not just "taking" the classes through these schools. I actually have a process for hacking them. Hope that helps clarify.
@JDMorris81
@JDMorris81 8 ай бұрын
@@9monthcollegegrad-ryansway671 Yes, I'm familiar with College Hacked, my other favorite channel and I happen to agree with their definition of college hacking which is finishing both quickly and inexpensively, something that third party sources allow you to do. Being enrolled in a school such as WGU mean paying over $4000 per term or even much more than that if enrolled in a school that charges per credit hour. You would still have to pay these fees even if you decided to test out, so I don't see how that could be cheaper. I'm all about saving money and finishing quickly, not just the latter.

Im very grateful my school accepts a large amount of Sophia courses. While I feel like I'm not learning as much there are gen eds so it's not like I was gonna remember them anyway. They may be changing it in the upcoming year though. 100% agree on math though lol I tried to take an upper level after Sophia and failed miserably.
@victorjiron3696
@victorjiron3696 8 ай бұрын
Hey man, I have a question. I agree with everything you said. Personally, I did decide to do the Sophia route and transfer it to SNHU mainly because my employer had a partnership with them and they did pay the good portion of the degree, and I made it even cheaper by doing Sophia courses. I thought it was a good idea to go that route just for the financial part of it, and luckily I will graduate a little over one year, still not under one year sadly, but at least this faster than me starting from scratch. But anyways, I was curious about something. I heard that WGU does not assign a GPA to students. I heard that you just get a passing or non-passing score. There's no A's orbies or a cumulative GPA that is asign. So I am curious how that would work for certain graduate programs. Because, I have heard that a lot of graduate programs require you to have a GPA such as medical school, law school, and some PhD programs, so how would that work. And, do you have a solution to this problem? Also, I'm not saying WGU is not a good school, I'm just simply curious how this would work with the GPA issue, and if there's a way around that. Thanks!
@9monthcollegegrad-ryansway671
@9monthcollegegrad-ryansway671 8 ай бұрын
Great question. Yes, you basically get a Pass or Fail grade for each class. B or higher is a pass, everything else you have to re-take. This can be an issue with some undergrad programs. But oddly enough, I haven't seen it be a big issue with WGU. They have solid relationships with very high level Master's and Grad programs. It sounds crazy, but 7 out of the 8 Ivy League schools have accepted WGU grads into their Master's programs. And I've seen students get accepted into very solid Law School's and Medical. Having said that, if you're planning on attending a specific post grad program... Always map out your path ahead of time. For example, if it's Law School... Call your desired Law School on the phone and make sure they accept the Bachelor's Degree you're wanting to earn. Hope this helps!

Well just go to an online university that accepts them. Sometimes it’s not necessarily about earning a degree. Many jobs that pay higher salaries want you have a higher level of education but don’t necessarily require a degree. They may just require a certain amount of credit hours in certain subjects ie courses in the social sciences or course credits in the area of business. Sophia is perfect for that if you’re not necessarily concerned about the actual degree. What’s even better is that you can get it done in a short period of time(depending on how much time and effort you’re willing to invest in the courses)

Most employers are going to want your college credits on actual college transcripts even if they don't require a full degree. I've never heard of an employer being cool with some classes listed on a Sophia.org transcript. They don't actually count as college classes until they've been accepted by a University. Even then, the transcripts are still separate. If you find an employer that will give you a job, promotion, or raise just by having some Sophia courses, that's pretty cool! Take advantage! Just make sure you're not taking Sophia courses in hopes that it's going to help without getting the degree. It's usually not the case.

They're toying with only accepting Sophia credits as electives but not counting them towards actual required classes. The scary thing is, schools can just change whether they'll accept at any time. And I know there are a lot of schools who hate that Sophia doesn't proctor their exams. Maybe they'll change that in the future. But for now, Sophia credits are yes.. easy to get but in the eyes of high level programs they're pretty weak credits.
