What do you think about this theory? There is certainly evidence there to support it, after all, Christopher could not stand Tony and his behaviour, mannerisms, and actions towards Christopher. Between poking fun at his drug problem, fighting the urges with drugs and alcohol, and choosing to side with Tony over Adriana, maybe Christopher realized the mafia lifestyle is not for him anymore. Let me know down below 👇🏻

It's because no series had that much of a pull on culture. Everybody saw it and has a say in it. Americans, italians, british... everybody knew somebody that mirrored a character in the show! Also, it was a drama, yet had some of the best comedic pieces in the early 2000's. The main characters was a mob boss, yet, was relatable as a family man, a father and a husband. There was never a dull moment, bad writing for more than 30 seconds or a bad soundtrack ruining a scene. The show was flawless. There is maybe 3 or 4 series that can be considered a top 2 show ever. But in my opinion, nothing has ever topped this

Despite everything, you can never forget how much being a wise guy meant to Chris. His father being a legend in the scene to the imaginary grandeur of being a "soldier"; Chris was groomed into the lifestyle. Being a successful member of the mafia was important to him and he ultimately made a choice by choosing to kill Aide.
@salvietesta6806

but remember that he had also talked about turning a few time throughout the series to Aide and JT Dolan. he wanted to be a Hollywood gangster. he wanted to be a gangster like he saw in the movies as opposed to what being a gangster really is. he enjoyed the money, women, the violence and all the notoriety he could get but hated almost everything else about the mob life. he hated taking orders, hated the responsibilities and lamented traditions like the low man having to pay. then there's the hat. massarone had a wire in his hat and Chris hadnt worn one since the first episode. personally I dont think that he was and the hat was a nod to the first time we saw him in the series but I do think theres enough to stop and make you think for a second.

Chris looking around and not looking anyone in the eye at the meeting, was because he was high. He was wearing the baseball cap, because they wanted to mirror the first scene we see of Chris driving Tony, to the last. This was suppose to be symbolic. That Chris had no arc and really never changed from the start of the series. He didn't rat on Tony. But yes, he would.

Christopher wore a cap in the very first scene he appeared in, where he and Tony chased and ran over that guy. Chris was a young man then and during the series Tony, wrongfully since Chris was not a person to depend in, invests more and more hope in Chris, who disappoints him over and over again. But Tony's biggest problem is nepotism. The cap and the line from the song "The child is grown, the dream is gone" (Melfi points out that Tony always talks about Chris more like a son) is simply a nod to the first scene and Tony finally realizing that there's no hope left. He uses the baby seat as an excuse, a way to justify killing Chris for being a liability to his daughter, as is pointed out later in that study that Melfi reads, about the criminal sociapath's sentimentality for babies and pets. Also, If the feds would wire a guy as close to Tony and his New York-business as Chris, it would be a dumb move to put it in a cap which could easily fall off - the hospital staff takes care of the cap after Chris has died, we see Tony noticing the cap among Chris' remaining things.

Jackie Jr wore a ball cap in a flashback scene. I think they just put caps on them to make them look younger. And the first episode Chris is supposed to be the young up and comer hes just Tony's driver. he's wearing a ball cap to make him look younger
@dinglbarry1275

Totally agree! Throughout the series Tony has this irrational loyalty towards those he considers to be his blood family. His mother, to Junior and especially to Chris. Throughout the series Chris would undermine Tony and he would do so in front of other members. That lack of respect would get anyone killed in that life, but not Chris because Tony protected him for no other reason other than nepotism. Chris was always an achor to Tony, which had nothing to do with his drug use either. .... also, Chris murders that screenwriter guy in the episode before Tony kills him. I highly doubt Chris would murder someone in an unprovoked attack if he was working with the FEDs, regardless of being wired or not. On a side note, it boggles my mind when I see Chris get as much fan love as he gets, because it's completely undeserved. He may be the only character with no redeeming qualities. He was one of the biggest fools in the family, he was abusive towards Adrianna... he's a pure psychopath. Tony for example is a bad person and a killer, but Tony does have the ability to empathize... Chris does not... and he's not even good as a member in the mafia. If he wasn't such an entitled disrespectful member I could see him being a hitman in the family, but he's no earner.... he's a gargantuan fool.

im with you i think people are reading too much into the hat for a wire. i think the hat was a symbol of not only his youth but how far he had regressed in his "arc" going from car driver, to prospect, to acting captain, and finally captain. basically how hed become less of an asset who knows maybe that what tony thought also and got rid of him. i used to think chris wasnt a rat but i think they had him pinned like altieri and big puS, so i dont think he had started cooperating with the feds but i do believe they pulled him in on that murder and possible intimidated the crap outta him like euguene...we will never know. anyway have a great day!

He was not a rat but could have became one down the line and I feel like he regretted not ratting Tony out and entering witness protection with Adriana. He could have gotten into screen writing and told his life story. The Sopranos didn't have secret storyline's going on that they didn't show us except for maybe what happened to Tony in the last scene of the show. I think Christopher goes back to using drugs near the end because he realizes he is kind of on the outs with the guys, his sobriety isn't respected by the guys and he is seen as a wuss and killjoy(at least when it comes to abstaining from drinking) and is now in the Mafia half heartedly at this point resenting Tony. He was in his marriage half heartedly too only because he knocked Kelly up and Adriana was still the love of his life. He went back to drugs to self medicate because he was stuck between a rock and a hard place and he couldn't deal with the "regularness of life" as he mentions in an early episode. Ironically, he is in his current situation only because he didn't rat.

After having watched the series again, and seeing Christopher's downfall and his disillusionment of life in the Mafia, from what happened with Adrianna to his relationship with Tony B and Tony S, and finally his penultimate episode where he sees his so called friends for what they really were, I have no doubt in my mind that Christopher either became a rat in that final episode, was considering becoming a rat, was considering joining a different crew or was even contemplating taking his own life. In any case, by that final episode, his relationship with Tony is irreparable. There is no love or loyalty between the two.
@godfather4377

You're right he WOULD RAT, but he definitely didn't rat in the end of the series. When he killed JT, that was his decision 'he's not going to rat'. We got the answer, with a gunshot to JT. Why Chris was wearing the hat, was because they wanted it to be symbolic to season 1 (first time we see Chris and he's driving Tony), to the last time we see Chris, to driving Tony. Why would Chris wear a hat? Maybe because he was high and wanted to disguise that. But he wasn't wearing a wire. Chris had no reason to rat. He wasn't caught in a murder/drug wrap. He's not going throw away a luxury life, just because he hates Tony (which he does). Chris will always choose Chris first. BTW, if Chris was a rat, when the wreck happen, and the hat was off. Wouldn't have Tony seen a wire? There wasn't any. He wasn't a rat. No mention 'oh no, we found a wire'... Nothing. I don't even think this scene was even made for us to wonder he was a rat.

I think part of Chrissy's entire "ark" was that he was fiercely loyal throughout the entire series, it would be out of character for him to be a rat or flip at the end imo. Chrissy being an addict was always hanging over Tony's head that someone too weak to get off drugs was surely weak enough to be flipped by the feds too. I think Tony was more worried about the actual snitch Paulie Walnuts who cost him a lot of money running his mouth to Johnny Sac. He was thinking about doing him like Big Pu$$y on that boat 😂
@dinglbarry1275
@dinglbarry1275 Жыл бұрын
I think the same thing. Paulie could possibly have been a rat. I've always been mixed as to in what way was Paulie a rat. Was he secretly working with the NY crew or was he working with the FEDS or both. It is odd when the NY family picked the 3 biggest jersey guys to put hits on, they skipped over Paulie and choose Bobbie instead, without even discussing Paulie And as we know Paulie was trying to get in good with the NY crew both when he was in jail and as soon as he got out of jail... why would the show bury that storyline, unless they decided to keep it a mystery. If Paulie was working with the FEDS, he would have been working with them from the time he was released from jail. Perhaps Paulie was working with the FEDs and Paulie was their NY inside guy. We know that the one FED dude tells Tony that they have a guy on the inside of the NY crew... we're never told who this guy on the inside is, but this person would have to be in contact with the top guys, given he knew about the hit on Tony. Tony's instincts were to kill Paulie on that boat and he almost did. The irony is, that by not acting on those instincts is what potentially led to Tony's demise.

I’ve always felt this same way that Chrissy flipped in the end for a lot of the reasons you mentioned. The murder of JT was pretty sloppy and JT’s wife witnessed Chris make a late night drop by and assault on a previous visit. It wouldn’t take long for the FBI to piece together what happened and give Chris the extra push to cooperate or else. Side note, Tony’s comment that “a rat died in the wall or something” not only has the obvious reference, but also “Comfortably Numb” was playing which was originally from Pink Floyd’s “the Wall” album. I know the actual song they were listening to was a remake but still found it interesting and possibly another hint from Chase.

By the time of Kennedy and Heidi, it's pretty clear that both Tony and Christopher are more or less fed up with the mafia lifestyle and and are clearly just going through the motions. I think Christopher was seriously considering flipping when Tony killed him and may very well have flipped in another few days or weeks had he lived but had not done it yet. That's my take on it.

Chris was the real deal.. it was his drug addiction that brought him down...imagine him not returning to drugs.. Tony likely would have named him as successor
@lewistaylor6241

I always though Chris was anxious and darting his head around to represent him being high on cocaine (the drug that's found in his system when he dies). The fiddling with the stereo and turning it up louder is also classic coked up behavior. The Cleaver cap, to me, was reinforcement of the introductory scene to Chris where we are introduced to a much younger version of him. The cap also reinforces Tony and Chris' broken relationship, as it's a cap representing the "Cleaver" film, which was emblematic of their relationship breakdown. Interesting to interpret it in another way. But think Chris was so close enough to Tony that verbal testimony in a court of law would have held up in a court of law (as it has in similar legal cases e.g. Sammy The Bull's testimony against John Gotti). Would personally say Chris hadn't flipped yet, but was bound to flip soon as his murder of JT Dollan was sloppy, and people in neighboring apartments would have easily heard it. Chris hadn't snitched yet. However, he was bound too soon. Not that I can really blame him, with Tony sidelining him and repeatedly shaming him, after he had the love of his life murdered to protect Tony.

But you think that Chris deserves our empathy after all he had done? Killing of so many people, like the waiter and JT, something Tony would never do, even killing of Emil( Email ) Kolar, he was in the shady business but he wasn't some ruthless gangster, just young guy like Chris at that time who loved drugs. And his betrayal of Adrianna because he wanna live luxury life is the final nail in his coffin

I kind of had a sense of something like this was happening. I just finished the series an hour ago and yesterday I saw the episode where Chris dies. Along with Chris being a liability not to just his own family but to business as well because of him starting to use drugs again, there was a tiny, very tiny inkling in my head as he was being killed off.

As much as I'd like to believe Chris wasn't a rat because he seemed to idolise the gangster lifestyle, I think he suits the profile of a rat in some ways. One, he always threatened to reveal his life in memoirs, screenplays etcetera. Two, he always questioned whether his loyalty in Tony was misplaced or not or whether "this Thing of ours" had meaning. In a lot of ways, just like Pussy. Let's face it. Did we ever hear Silvio or Paulie consider ratting to the feds? Or Bobby Baccala? The series had been hinting at the possibility of Chris flipping since the very beginning. Chris' entire story arc was about whether he should commit to the life or search for his own outside of the family. Chris chose the family and regretted that decision in more or less every single scene after he made the choice. Chase and Winter masterfully eluded to the possibility of him flipping throughout the series and left it up to our imagination whether he really did or not. I loved Chris as a character and would hate to imagine him ratting. But the way he got disrespected by Tone for trying to clean up his addiction even after he chose him over the love of his life. May have been the straw. 🐫

Nope, the scene is supposed to be symbolic. The first scene we see of Chris, he's wearing a cap driving Tony. Just like here, Chase is trying to tell us, with Comfortably Numb playing. Chris never changed. He's the same guy he was when we first met him. Chris was right, he had no arc. And Tony's looking at him realizing the dream of him ever being what he wanted him to be is dead. Gone.

Chrissie could have been flipped by the Feds for a number of things such as killing that cop or even JT. If he was an informer chris's character would've had to be a world class oscar caliber actor with yoda levels of self control to pull it off without being found out. His inability too control himself when he's stressed angry or high/drunk is what would've gotten him caught because he'd have almost certainly either spilled his guts while he was off his face on some intoxicant or he'd have blown a gasket at someone and let his natural tendency too run off at the mouth when he's upset would've taken over.

It was the Cleaver hat which has much more symbolism, plus he was high. A hat can make you feel like your "hiding" when you're high. Adds a layer of "protection" and can literally feel like he is hiding his eyes or face at the right angles during times of paranoia.

The tragedy of Christopher is that Tony murders him even though he was completely loyal the entire show. Chrissy made mistakes, but was never disloyal, but got killed anyway. It's a great point to make. The hat as silly has that sounds is such a big piece of information. He was never seen wearing one hardly ever in the entire show. Sure, could have he been wearing the hat due to it endorsing his movie. But it's very suspicious, it'd be a very clever move which I could see David Chase doing in front of our eyes without saying it. However, with all that Christopher went through and his huge loyalty to Tony, I can't see that being an issue. I see the issue being his drug problem, and if he tell Tony how he was on drugs, he would have stayed alive. But with the car beyond totaled, Christopher telling Tony how he needed him for urine because of him doing drugs. The kicker for Tony would be seeing Christopher's daughter's car seat in the wreck and he in that moment he did what he did to benefit his new wife and child. The theories could go on and on, but that's why we're here! haha.
