@@PatrikKleemola this is now my firm favorite of Sor s work ,listen everyday ,listen in the car driving as well , such a magnificent piece ,do you have a favorite Sor work ?
@PatrikKleemola3 жыл бұрын
@@AlanMcCarthyguitar Nice to hear that it gives some enjoyment! There are so many fine works by Sor that it's hard to pick an absolute favourite. The point of this series on the Panormo guitar is to bring to light some rarely played works (like op. 12) that I actually consider masterpieces.

Do you play the variation s on a theme by Mozart one ? Probably the most famous!! But if I had a choice of playing that or this one I’d pick this one here , Both though are out of my league 😪 You are a brilliant advocate of Sors music , you must feel deep connection to him
@PatrikKleemola Жыл бұрын
Yes I've performed Mozart Variations many times in concerts, but on this Sor series I wished to focus on the repertoire that has been more neglected eventhough without a good reason in my opinion.

I'm currently learning this on the harp. Your playing is so beautiful and precise and inspiring, I hope to use it as a guide. Thanks for sharing your music!
@PatrikKleemola2 ай бұрын
Hi Rebecca, thank you for your comment! I've noticed your recordings of Sor's music on the harp and it has been refreshing to hear your musical performances of Sor on harp. The sound of harp gives clarity to the music and Sor's often quite simple but perfectly written textures sound wonderful on it, and you've made nice selections from Sor pieces. Just for fun, may I suggest you couple of Sor pieces to play where Sor actually imitates harp? :) - Op. 31 No. 18 - Op. 60 No. 24 - Morceau de Concert Op. 54, Variation No. 4 Looking forward to follow your channel with Sor's music played on the harp!

@@PatrikKleemola Thanks for the recommendations! I was unaware Sor composed harp-ish pieces. I've been using a random number generator to pick things to play. There's so much to choose from.

I’m listening again !! I never tire of this master piece , it’s in my top 3 favourite pieces , I’m curious if you keep it in your hands ? Do you still practice it ??
@PatrikKleemola Жыл бұрын
Hi Alan, thanks for your interest, yes this piece I've been playing in my concerts many times during 2021-23 to a nice effect, I'd say. It's wonderful, and it's was the first guitar piece by Sor (also Studies op. 6) published after his arrival to London in 1815-16. It must have been the Fantasia (this or op. 7) Sor played in concerts in London during the first year or two as documented, otherwise I don't any reason why to publish such an challenging piece upon the arrival to the English capital.
@AlanMcCarthyguitar Жыл бұрын
Must be massively challenging piece , one last question, how do you bring this piece from playing it nice in the practice room to the concert stage ??, that leap is just huge !.Any vital practice techniques and memory techniques for you ??
@AlanMcCarthyguitar Жыл бұрын
How you and I would love to jump in a Time Machine and go back to see Sor in concert in London 😂 But I have next best thing , have you !!
@PatrikKleemola7 ай бұрын
@@AlanMcCarthyguitar To feel comfortable while playing on the stage takes many concert performances, one should really practise it by performing music to other people as often as possible. Still to this day when I'm performing a piece of music for the first time in concert it's a leap and you learn much from the first performance. The next ones are usually easier.
@AlanMcCarthyguitar3 жыл бұрын
Hi Patrik ,did you arrange you own edition for this ? is a modern edition available?
@PatrikKleemola3 жыл бұрын
I used the original editions. There's actually two editions: The first edition published in London and later a one published by Meissonnier in Paris. You can search imslp.org

Are those gut trebles? Sound wonderful, as do you. I will not believe that F. Sor played as well as you do.
@PatrikKleemola3 жыл бұрын
Thanks, the trebles are nylgut strings made by Aguila. Sor shared stages in the last decades of his life in London, Paris and Moscow with the best musicians of his time such as Liszt, Hummel, Kalkbrenner and many others. I'm sure he was something very special as a performer.
