Canonically it's the other way around; as when you beat him in both games, he's relatively unphased. Specifically in 2, he congratulates Sora, but tells him he could never actually beat him in a real fight; implying Seph is messing around.

You can do it. I did at Level 80 with Oblivion Keyblade, High Jump, no Dash, Glide, no Aerial Spin from Master Form, Trinity Limit, Reflectga, Elixirs for HP+MP, Curaga, as much Combo Abilities and Finishers I can add, Once More, Second Chance and Leaf Bracer.
