RIP William Friedkin. You were one of the greats, truly. A few years back, he had tweeted this little fan trailer of mine a few times saying how much he loved it. It still brings a smile to my face knowing that, as well as knowing that I've helped steer at least a few people towards this masterpiece that might not have known it existed otherwise. If you are a fan of this modern trailer, consider subscribing to my channel - I try to shine a light on an underrated, obscure, or forgotten classic every month with an updated trailer! kzbin.info Also please consider supporting my work by buying me a coffee! www.buymeacoffee.com/dmedit

this is not a "modern trailer" this is so much better than modern trailers, it should never be called that. a "modern trailer" has the stupid mini trailer before the trailer and then it says "trailer.....starts....NOW" and then they play some unfitting music from the 50s or 60s and proceed to blow every big surprise that the movie might hold.

Oh my gods, dude. You have done film fans a great service by making this awesome trailer. My wife wanted me to show her a trailer of Sorceror before she’d watch it with me and I knew the old-school trailer would make the movie seem to cheesy for her. You really did this gem of a movie sweet justice!

Thank you so much! In fact, many of my trailers began life because I would show my girlfriend the (original) trailer and that would just not convince her to watch it. So I truly appreciate this comment more than you know!

I came here to say the same thing. My friends didn’t want to watch this movie because it was an ‘old movie’. I showed them your trailer and that convinced them otherwise! Truly, truly superb work! Now they’re asking me about other old films like ‘Jaws’ and ‘Close Encounters of the Third Kind’. XD

I saw the original trailer for this when I was watching the movie “Wizards” in Charleston SC in 1977, about a month before I joined the Navy. I saw it the first night it played. I kept a fuzzy, pan and scan VHS tape of this that I recorded from HBO for 30 years before I finally found it on Blu-ray. My all-time favorite movie and one of the most underrated and underappreciated of all time.

Sorcerer was tipped to become one of the biggest movies of 1977. Sadly, a little sci-fi movie named Star Wars was released about a month before Sorcerer and completely overshadowed it. Plus the original trailer alluded that it may be related to The Exorcist

I saw this film in a theater on the East Coast when it was first released. I have been smitten with it ever since. I couldn't understand how such a masterful work could remain so obscure for so long. Then I realized that it was released the same year as Star Wars. The hub bub about the Lucas film buried everything else then. See it now as it's just as powerful as it was over 40 years ago. (One of the best soundtracks from those days, too.)

I saw this in 1977 when I was 17. I didn't see star wars until it was on television in the late 1980's. Not a star wars fan or science fiction for that matter. Didn't care about star wars then and still don't. Maybe if they used a better trailer (Sorcerer), they would have had more interest in this movie.

I distinctly remember back in the late 80s or early 90s reading a Donald Duck comic where he has a job as a truck driver driving a trailer full of nitroglycerine through a terrifying mountain pass, and over a rickety rope bridge, and now I'm wondering if it was inspired by this movie. I tried to see if I could find info about this comic online, but Google completely failed me. Now I'll never know if that comic was inspired by this movie, or this movie inspired by this comic.

News of Friedkin's death prompted my wife to ask my favorite film of his. Without a moment's hesitation I replied "Sorcerer". She'd never heard of it, and so I pulled up this trailer, and ... I immediately got chills, seeing these images from years ago when the film was first released. I remember it was the ultimate edge-of-your-seat movie and Vangelis' score was mind-blowing. Definitely my favorite Roy Scheider film. Thank you for posting this incredible trailer. We'll be watching the movie tonight over popcorn and a couple of Mike's Hard Mango 😎

Hey I appreciate your comment, thank you! If even one person discovers a film from one of my trailers, that's a really cool thing. Thank you for supporting these!

Don't forget that Keith Jarrett's pipe organ music was used throughout the film, a lot of it being mixed in with Tangerine Dream's music. That was a big reason the film had an ethereal quality to it. Not many people I know who saw the film knew this, even to this day, KZbin reviewers get it wrong saying the entire score was done by Tangerine Dream. By the way, Keith Jarrett is widely known to be one of the greatest pianists in the world, playing Jazz and Classical.
