I used an old canon printer psu as a variable power supply for my projects. Can go as low as 4.6 volts to 25 volts with a max amp value of i think 3amps before overcurrent protection kicks in. I only took the sensing transistor out and replaced it with a 100k potentiometer so i can manually adjust the voltage, worked really well. Im planning to transfer it to a better case, more specific, a computer psu. And i recently got another epson printer psu that has 45v 3a max output. Recently tested it amd it gene fron 2.2 volts to ofcourse 45v, way better minimum value than my canon printer. Might put two of em tgether as separate outputs in a single case.

Sometimes it is handy to measure the voltage at the load instead of at the power supply output terminal. Simply put binding posts on the voltmeter leads and use an external jumper to connect to the power output terminals most of the time, and remove that jumper and use leads when you want to measure the voltage at the load.

In my projects I usually need very low voltage and amps--below the minimum settings on PSUs. It would be nice to see a video on how to make a power supply capable of fine calibration in the 0.1V-1.5V range.
@Sorin_DIY Жыл бұрын
Hi. Most DC converters have the lowest voltage at about 0.9V. You need a circuit board designed for a variable power supply, like this kit: s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_DEvDpXh I haven't tried it yet, I've already made quite a few power supply videos this year :) maybe next year I will test it. You also need a better volt/ammeter. These cheap ones are good for their price, but not very accurate at lower values.

Hi. you can use a 3.3kohm or 4.7kohm resistor, 1W minimum. if you plan to use the power supply with a load connected for a long time (for example to charge a battery) I suggest you use a 3W resistor.

I used the smae module to update mmy Lab Power Supply. But output voltage is never fixed, it is always fluctuating. You pointed about the delay when decreasing voltage without load, and I added a 3.3K resistor and indeed now is decreasing faster. Unfortunatly it never set on fixed voltage, lets say 6,6243 then 6,6185 then 6,6347 then 6,6295V. It do not say at fixed voltage, even if I wait more than 1 min after leaving the knob. Any idea please.

Great Project as always!! I wish you presented a little bit the module used, and remplacing the potentiometer for the current settings is not that helping. With those chinese module, the current setting is very sensible, a little turn of the knob and gone to much. Any idea to make it behave a little bit as the voltage potentiometer. Even with those blue multiturn turn pot is not that great. You should make a video to present PSU modules, you got a great collection of PS and experiance with them, also teach how to set max current on them without load, and tips of course. Thx

If I was going to build a similar one, I would need to source another volt/amp meter. All that type, I've purchased in the past have absolutely terrible accuracy. Some can't even adjust to within 0.5V/0.5A, as the potentiometers reach their stops. Zero faith, in that type, Sorin.

Hi. In recent years I have bought several types of panel volt/ammeters. this type is the most accurate (at this price) and it has 4 digits. I also buy several volt/ammeters at a time and test them with a multimeter. some of them need to be adjusted with the small potentiometers. but I also received some bad ones...
