Refurbished - Car Battery Charger From The '70s

Hey! I hope you are doing well. Today I will share this video with you, which initially was uploaded only on my Patreon page. But because Christmas is coming, it will be my gift to you :)
This is a home-made car battery charger, built in 1977 with even older components. But it's broken, so I need to repair it. Please don't be scared of this old and innovative communist technology :)

Wow that super secret technology is amazing! All we need is wiring, screws, a Full Bridge Rectifier (as Big Clive says)! Also that very good soldering. The Spit 'N' Polish part did not far so well but hay it's a favor right? I'm so glad you used technical terms that anyone could understand... :-D Loved the intro, fabulous! Fain proiectel. Imi place Lcd-ul de la redresor 🤣🤣🤣 si antena virles. Am si eu un redresor mare 12-24v / 15A, si vreo 20kg, nemtesc, cu punte cu seleniu si traf cu pantograf. Inca este functional, numai ca puntea a cam imbatranit si ar trebui inlocuita. Spor!

Daca legi pamantarea si la rama selectorului si mai adaugi o piulita oarba intre radiatorul puntii si carcasa de lemn e perfect !Sau prinde radiatorul prin niste distantiere si negrese de carcasa . Oricum , mai cauta pe unde a fost aceasta scula , sigur trebuie sa mai fie ceva trainic pe langa . Chiar mi-a placut !

Excelente restauración. La batería de plomo ácido empezó a consumir mas corriente porque al haber estado descargda a 0V durante 6 años, las placas se sulfataron, pero la corriente pulsante ayudó a desulfatar las placas y se redujo la resistencia interna y eso es bueno

Super Sorine, ti ai facut un nou fan :D Crezi ca este safe sa incarc o baterie moarta ca a ta la sfarsitul videoului, are 12v si este la acelasi voltaj ca a ta... ma gandeam sa folosesc o punte redresoare si puterea unui transformator de 12v, diodele clasice de 1A banuiesc ca nu merg pentru asa ceva nu ? :)

Salut. depinde ce transformator ai. pentru a incarca o baterie cu plumb de 12V iti trebuie un transformator care sa scoata minm 13V si cativa A. circuitul electric al unei masini are intre 13.8V si 14.4V. automat si puntea redresoare trebuie sa fie mai puternica. iar daca bateria e complet descarcata trebuie sa limitezi curentul de incarcare, altfel o sa traga foarte mult curent.

I wouldn't trust that old transformer for not shorting out. I'd put a fuse on the input as well. Neat old charger. Looks a lot older then the 70's?

Salut Sorin! E mai vechi de anii '80... Cutii asemănătoare vei găsi cu scopul de a da tensiuni alternative del a180 la 240 volți curent alternativ în trepte variabile... televizoarele cu lămpi ! (ce vremuri !) Oricum, mi-am amintit cu plăcere de anii '70...'80: televizorul alb negru al FAMILIEI - E47E cu tuburi (PCL 86.... și multe altele) nu ca astăzi când ai în fiecare cameră un tv plat cu o diagonală mare... Iar varianta ”Tricolorul” nu e cea originală - Ciprian Porumbescu și muzica și versurile, ci e ceea ce a fost imnul național până în 1989 (muzica Ciprian Porumbescu, text - Nicolae Ceaușecu ?!) - Păcat de pervertirea variantei originale !

Get some epson salt and revive that ups battery and by the way nice job with the charger, use lithium battery on car is not good idea at all because lithium hates hot and cold so lead acid batteries still good to use on cars and other applications

Don't throw away lead acid batteries that are 0v or 12v but don't give almost any current. The lead plates get sulfated but the battery itself is fine. To fix this you need to charge it and connect it to a load and repeat this process many times and you will eventually get a fully functional battery again, Trust me I have done this many times and have recovered 80% of supposedly dead batteries that aren't actually dead
