I believe they did, and when they saw the last titan died *remember that symbol hid king from them, so they didn't know*, they left the rest of the planet alone. I have a weird theory. You remember the textbook about Collectors that the Collector has King read him as a bedtime story? "To preserve, to observe, we must amass what flies, what swims, be it predator, or prey, seal them up so they may never fade." What if the Archivists looked at what happened to the Collector and decided, on the basis of that ideology, that they might as well have a member of their own species behind glass too, as it were?

I have a feeling that kings dad knew it wasn't the collectors fault but imprisoned them to keep them safe. So that instead of the one species going extinct both stay alive, the archivist are most likely dead and kings dad as I said before protected collector to keep them alive.

I think that they're a race of nigh omnipotent interdimensional beings tasked with studying and preserving life, existence and knowledge, hence the name, and they ditched Collector probably because their immature behavior hindered their work, kinda like how one would leave a kid in a ball pit in the mall when you want to go shopping in peace, only intervening upon the discovery of a potential existential threat

Like if the Scarlet King manipulated the Archivist's into killing the Titans so they'd exhaust their power fighting them and then he could take them out and conquer their universe but they managed to use the last of their power to keep him out which killed them in the process, then he brought Phillip to the demon realm because he knew he hated witches so much he'd do anything to destroy them all and would find the Collector, and then brought Luz there because he knew she'd defeat Belos and they'd need the Collector to do it, that way when he was freed the Scarlet King could somehow trick him into bringing him into their universe?

Nah they will be best friend for sure. Bill Cipher will help free him from imprisonment and The Collector will use his space manipulation power to build an interdimensional door to repay Bill. After that, the Collector will also join the weirdness gang and both of them will cause chaos party for fun. That seems fit for the Collector's personality.

Actually he'd consider the Collector a friend because he literally offered Ford a place in his weirdness gang in Weirdmaggedon 1 base on his extra finger but Ford refused. But the Collector's nature is having fun and party which is almost identical to Bill and base on how he was on board with Belos genociding the entire island in ss2, i'm not surprise The Collector will also be okay with Bill creating chaos and genocide. Plus the Collector is not a normal being but a god so he fits right in with the weirdness condition to join Bill's gang.@@Morales3088​
