As much as I would love Fujitsu to pay all the compensation, it was Post Office who made all the decisions on how it dealt with sub postmasters. Blaming SPMs for the shortfalls; forcing them to cover the losses; taking SPOs to court with no evidence of crimes; scaring SPMs to settle out of court on the lesser crime of false accounting to avoid a trial PO had scant evidence for; PO spending insane amounts of tax payer money to outspend SPOs in court. Those decisions were not made by Fujitsu.

When will these people learn that it’s never a full or meaningful apology until the victims have been fully compensated and those who have done wrong have faced justice. At very least, those who were involved should be on trial facing charges of perverting the course of justice. Why do company bosses always get away with it. Things need to change, but all politicians seem to be deaf. One rule for them, one for the rest of us.

I blame the Post Office & especially Paula Vennells (supposedly an Anglican Priest!?!?) more than Fujitsu tbh. I’m sure part of their contract with the Royal Mail was to shut up when issues were raised - & I doubt Parliament would be doing anything had it not been for Alan Bates, the Alliance of those sub postmasters & ITV. It’s truly sickening & I’m wondering who, if anyone, in the government knew & covered up. At the end of the day this hasn’t just cost those affected financially, it has cost lives & will ultimately cost taxpayers since the govt will have no choice but to pay the compensation EVERY single person affected deserves.

Now that Fujitsu have finally admitted their guilt they can assist the government in paying significant damages and reparations to all the sub postmasters the were adversely affected by Fujitsu’s deeply flawed Horizon system. The taxpayers should not foot the total bill, that should all come out of Fujitsu’s deep pockets. Additionally, all Fujitsu systems that are used by government organisations should be subject to a thorough assessment of its performance.

That‘s a key point why so often apologies are not given. The fault is not on them but on those that think automatically because an apology was issued that this is also an admission of guilt. Because of that the incentive to not apologise until convicted in a court of law is so much greater than the humane path of apologising. This is a general observation, not specific to this scandal.

To be fair Fujitsu could stonewall and make much more of the failings of the Post Office. After all, the buck stops at PO management rather than those they hired, and their defence against criminal prosecution might only rest on whether they were mislead by Fujitsu. I’m a developer and have written networked accounting systems (much smaller scale). There are always bugs, though the worst of my accounting errors was choosing the wrong data type which led to discrepancies of pennies. This sounds like partial transactions are being committed instead of rolled back, but that would be obvious from simple queries of the database. I find it difficult to believe no one in PO management realised it was the system before blaming honest people. Ps can’t seem to find what DBMS was being used. Anyone happen to know? Or was is custom?

Well Mr Fujitsu face. Your company will have policies and rules saying things like "everyone is responsible for each others safety, everyone is responsible for ensuring rules are followed, everyone is responsible for making sure spills are mopped up. So that means, now, everyone at Fujitsu is responsible for compensating the postmasters, and doing whatever they can to mop up this mess. It works both ways, when it benefits the company and when it doesn't. Get your hands in your pockets and pull out the dosh and get all the information together that tells everyone what went on. You should have done this already and the fact you haven't done it voluntarily shows you aren't really sorry.

Will the group compensation for this legally protected group who have had their lives threatened also come from the Fiijitsu compensation scheme? Will the collapse of the horizen system effect the payments of disability incomes through the post office branches since June 2022 ? under article 11 for human rights for those with disabilities the legislation under the European convention make immediate settlement to these sorely disabled bling adults from the monies allocated by Fujitsu ?

Did Fujitsu UK not think sub postmasters were being blamed for the shortfalls the bugs were creating? Did Fujitsu UK not see the list of sub postmaster victims in the articles coming out of Computer Weekly? Surely forthcoming articles by Computer Weekly about Horizon software would get their attention. What was Fujitsu doing to ensure its employees were keeping quiet about the back door patches? Why was Fujitsu obsessed with security at its Bracknell office? Was it to keep remote access employees from talking to the other people in the building? To keep remote access workers from talking to the help line workers who were telling sub postmasters that remote access was impossible?

I'm glad that they've admitted their faults and had the decency to apologise, this person does seem to realise that his company should be held accountable, which is refreshing.. And in stark contrast to the post office and other government officials. Having admitted there were faults in the system, from day one, which the post office knew about.. gives the impression, that they colluded with the post office to keep quiet. There was obviously a huge financial incentive to keep the post office happy.. And huge losses to consider if they didn't! They did whatever the post office asked of them to cover up these errors.. providing them with data as evidence that made the system look 'robust' whenever they wanted to prosecute a sub-postmaster. That crime alone should be punishable with a long prison sentence.. How many years is just, for ruining so many lives? We need a full criminal investigation of all parties involved and those found responsible should be sentenced to the fullest extent of the law.
