If I remember correctly as someone who has read the books cover to cover at least 5 times as a kid and still has his copies of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Qudditch Through the Ages that was back when they still used Golden Snidgets, a bird that is either endangered or extinct because seekers weren’t too careful when they caught them, and the reason the game went on so long was cuz the snidget flew off.

That's actually why the snitch is such an important part to the game. We don't know the score of that match. It could've been an absolutely obliterating defeat, but because they didn't find the snitch yet, the game couldn't end. The snitch gets 150 points sure, but it also ends the game.

40:23 - Ron is actually the statistically most-liked character in the books. People often come away comparing him to Samwise in LOTR. In the movies, he is treated like a sitcom dad, and most of his heroic deeds and contributions are given to Hermione. I still love these movies, but yeah, Ron gets dumped on by the writers a lot just for comedic effect.

On the other end of the spectrum, unlike Samwise Gamgee, Ronald Weasly in the books had some real nasty sides to him that are also absent from the movies. For example, in the books he has the same scathing and bigoted hatred for Slytherin that the Malfoys have for muggles. To book Ron it didn't matter if you were the most wholesome person ever, if you were sorted into Slytherin you were automatically a wizard nazi to him and he wanted nothing to do with you. Harry's own nastier sides are also downplayed in the movies. The way he behaves in book 5, like deciding he will never forgive Snape after seeing what his dad and friends did to him, was disgusting and of his own free will, beyond any "oh no, Voldemort is using a Jedi Mind Trick to make me angery and it's not my own feelings" like the movie suggests.

Harry is not particularly gifted beyond sports, he's not that clever or cunning, certainly not hard-working, terrible at planning or thinking things through, has little to no patience, is easily tricked, repeatedly makes terrible decisions and in general he not only can't do anything without far more skilled and capable friends doing everything for him, but he tends to actively drag down the competence level of any group he's in. Dude is a story of a nobody getting carried by nepotism because people feared or whorshipped a magic scar that gave him borrowed powers. While Snape sure went about it wrong, he was technically right about Harry's behaviour problems. TLDR Gryffindor is where you dump a lot of jocks, sadly. And even the non-jocks tend to get put there for reasons that aren't exactly flattering. For example, the reason the hat didn't put Hermione in Ravenclaw was that unlike Luna, she's too rigid and close-minded, too stubborn to accept, entertain, respect or even acknowledge differing viewpoints than her own. Great difficulty with thinking outside the box. Intelligent, but neither wise nor humble.

McGonagall is in fact the Head of Gryffindor House. Snape is Slytherin's head, Flitwick (the dwarf who taught them Winguardium Leviosa) is the head of Ravenclaw and Professor Sprout, who you will meet in the next film, is Hufflepuff's head.

I love Flitwick, not just because I'm Ravenclaw, but because I'm a Warwick Davis fan! I also really like the late great John Hurt and Garrick Ollivander was canonically in Ravenclaw too. I mean that scene at Ollivander's, where he whispers to Harry about how Voldemort did great and terrible things? Thats the one moment the acting level of the movie went up from a cozy Chris Columbus flick to straight up Ian McKellen's level when talking to Frodo about the One Ring. John Hurt was so goated.

Also every match ends with catching a Snitch. In overall cup ranking the regular points matter more, as the top teams usually have 2-3 wins already, so the difference is the thing that decides the final winner. Especially if team is strong - Harry catching the Snitch early would have been super bad - because they could get more points from specific match. And like you said - if opponents score exceeds 150, which isn't unthinkable even at Hogwarts. Team will pretty much lose even the match. This is exactly what happened with Krum at the finale of the World Championship.

yeah, but it's also the only way to end the match. Like someone else said in another comment, the longest quidditch match was 3 months, because the Snitch used to be some fancy bird, and it just f-ed off. I just don't like that the movie gives a nearly immediate contradiction. When Harry is getting introduced to all the balls and how the game is played, he's told catching the snitch immediately wins you the game. Then, during the match, it's explained that i just ends the game and scores 150 points, which could still result in a loss for the catching team.

@ElderonAnalas I believe a draw agreement also ends the match - we don't really know how much that impacts the final scores, tbh. Would make sense if they both got 0 or 75 split from Snitch points - big issue would be with the goal points. Nullifying scores would probably really damn bad, but on the other hand you could abuse the system and have both teams go for weeks and push in the rankings thanks to it (but then again that's already possible to be done even if Snitch isn't caught, so who knows, it's bad sport tbh).

The snitch is worth 150 points because way back in the past a wizard released a golden snidget (fast agile bird) during a boring game and offered up a prize of 150 galleons to anyone who caught it. Thus it became tradition to catch a golden snidget for 150 points in honor of that event. When they largely wiped out the snidgets due to careless catching it became the golden snitch. I also have a personal theory the points used to be less of a deal as broomsticks were slower so the teams could get more points. To put it in context between Harry's first and third year (2 years) sports brooms went from a top speed of 100 mph to 150 mph and that's a huge increase meaning over some hundred years they only got up to 100 mph then increased by half again their top speed. Hence why we see Harry and other players catching the snitch in a straight line chase, something I don't think they used to be able to do.

The thing is, I can kinda understand where Petunia (Harry's aunt) is coming from. So its explained in the books? But yes, the reason Petunia hates Harry is shes jealous. You see when her Sister Lily recived her letter to hogwarts, Petunia was jealous and wanted to go to the same school her sister was. So she actually wrote to Dumbledore herself saying she deserved to go to Hogwarts as well. Dumbledore's response was to politely inform her that was impossible seeing as she had NO magical abilities 😂. After that, Petunia hated Dumbledore, Lily and anything to do with wizards or the wizarding world.

It’s literally a case that the publisher thought the term Philosopher’s Stone was too difficult to understand for American readers so changed it to Sorcerer’s Stone as it made the connection to magic easier and thus more marketable than a term that has been used in certain circles for more than 4000 years and used more frequently in modern media in the past 100 years

I don’t know if it’s ever said in the movies, but the reason why Harry had to keep going back to the Dursley‘s was because the protection magic that his mother put on him was stronger in the presence of his aunt because she is a blood relative of his mom. I have such a love/hate relationship with this series. On the one hand its such a good story, the characters, dialogue, soundtrack, the set pieces, even the CG are fantastic. Quite honestly, there isn't much not to love about this series. HOWEVER, I have one issue with these films and its such a big issue that I can never really call Harry Potter the best series of all time. The issue being, we never see magic in the way that you would expect from a wizard school. Sure, there are cute common magical moments you'll see throughout the series like watching a guy clean a table with magic. That said, we very rarely get to see them learn combat or everyday magic. Every fight comes down to who can fire the biggest beam or pop the wand out of the person's hand faster. When I hear tale of a wizard school I'm expecting kids to learn actual spells. Like when Malfoy summons a snake to attack Harry in the second movie during the Wizard duel or like the most legendary battle between Dumbledor and Voldemort. Sure, I don't expect kids to be popping off on that level but come on, make magic cool. The biggest crime in this series is having a Wizard tournament and not having any real magic moments. Shit, the first event is to get an egg away from a dragon. They go through the trouble of showing us every dragon that the contestants will have to battle and yet we never get to see any of the other contestants do anything, it just skips to Harry's turn. And sure I understand Harry lacks the education of the other contestants because they are older but him summoning a broom to out race a dragon is just weak sauce. It might have been understandable if we got to see the other contestants outclass Harry but without that context, him just flying around on a broom seems terrible. I will give them some credit, they use tons of different potions and we even get to see a few of them brewed. So 10 points to Gryffindor for that much.

Actually Disney's castle is inspired by the Neuschwanstein Castle but Ludwig's castle is actually in that same general area. My family saw both in the same trip and ludwig's place was was like a small palace, not a castle but it's pretty fancy. You can literally see several of these small 'castles' in less than a week, if you are willing to rent a car and have good walking endurance. Do be warned some of the busier ones might do reservations only during busy season's, so always be sure to check their sites for details while planning.

They never explain it with quiddich, it's not that catching the snitch means the game is over and they automatically win, it's worth like 150 points, so unless the other team is 150 points ahead, it usually means whoever catches it is likely to win it. But catching it does signal the match ends there

If I remember correctly, scoring a goal with the quaffle gets you 10 points. The snitch being worth 15 goals is unfair no matter how you try to argue it because you'd expect 2 evenly matched teams to normally be neck to neck with their scores, which makes catching the snitch functionally an automatic win. I'd imagine it's not very often a team gets 15 goals over the other team.

In the books, they're very difficult to see and catch, because it's designed to be hard to spot, be extremely fast, can change directions quickly, and they have no flight pattern. Some seekers can't find it at all but harry had a natural talent.

Those scenes were part of the Extended Edition of 2009. Ironically only first two movies got an official release for DVD and Blue Ray with scenes in it. The other re-released movies of 3-7 got the scenes in an extra section, not within the film itself.

My theory regarding how sorting hat chooses houses, is that it isn't based on the qualities a wizard have, but on the qualities said wizard admires. That would explain how Harry, Neville and hermione became gryffindor for example.
