Good luck on the new range. I'm fortunate to have a 100yd range right out my back door. The problem with that is you'll need even more ammo!! RWS special match, I've probably only shoot a couple of boxes but in my MTR it wasn't anything to write home about, good but not great, at least on that day I haven't forgotten about talking to you regarding chamber depth. Can't wait to see your new bench! And congrats on the Match win. 👍

Thanks man and yea man I can’t wait to be able to have my own range to shoot at it’s needed to be able to make more shooting video since range has new rules in place not allowing me to make anymore. Yea I’m hoping the Special match will do good for the ARA match coming up. Will be doing videos of the progress of the range and thanks again.

RWS special Match Great info. Just getting into the 22lr shooting. Got a CZ457 and trying out different brands on ammo, so far Wolf Match Extra is the best. I Hadn’t thought much about the weights.but I have a scale and will look into it. Thanks!

I have done a lot of sorting by weight and rim thickness, and it seems to be accurate that weight and rim thickness make a difference. I shoot a CZ457 MTR, and it is a little picky. I found the best grouping i get is with Wolf match target and SK Standard Plus.

Great minds think alike. Spent the afternoon weighing 550 rounds of centre X . I follow much the process you do although not doing rim thickness at this stage. Shot some SK+ at a comp over the weekend that had been sorted placing me second @50m bench rest so it shot really well for me. I find Midas+ so consistent weight wise I don't bother sorting IT for weight but find some value sorting the lower spec stuff so far.

I have a suggestion. I have heard that subsonic ammo is much less affected by wind speed than ammo that travels faster than sound. It would be interesting to see a comparison video on a windy day.

I do a couple more steps. Before beginning. Clean surface of the scale, Wipe down the end of the cases to remove excess oil. Oil can build up on scale effecting weight. Clean the scale surface every 100 rounds.

@johnwayne21033 жыл бұрын
Thanks for making this video. 22LR shooters especially BenchRest shooters can be a meticulous lot. There are so many factors to consider when choosing ammo. Trying out different manufactures can be a tedious. There is a process for doing that from cleaning your barrel after each lot and then re-seasoning the barrel and it matters greatly from indoor to outdoor. Everyone has their own way of doing this and truth be told do what you feel works for you. Let me preface this with the fact that target 22lr ammo is mostly designed for Olympic class rifles and for specific distances which usually don't exceed more than 50mm's in Olympic competition. RWS, Lapua, Eley Are there competitions for longer ranges? Absolutely, but the target ammo was not designed for that task, it's made to win Olympic medals. When Someone wins a Gold medal in the Olympics in 3 position rifle or pistol shooting CCI high velocity I will eat my hat. If you really want to get down in the weeds there is a testing facility in Texas that will take your Anschutz barrel out of the stock and place it in a Bench Rest hold and they will proceed to test different lot numbers to determine which ammo (Eley) shoots more consistent. Eley if I remember correctly has 5 machines to make 22lr ammo, if you ever look at a box of Eley it will have a lot number batch. I have linked to their website to show you how to read the lot numbers. The machine, the year and the velocity can make a difference in accuracy through your rifle. My rifle likes velocity's between 1045 to 1050 FPS. If I select a batch faster than that I get odd inconsistency's. Remember we are trying to score 10.9's or keyhole the shots. Even some velocity's can either be too fast or too slow and it will affect accuracy. 50m's remember. Some target rifle ammo should not be used in semi auto pistols due to the fact that the rounds are either coated in either bees wax like Eley or some light machine oil. Using that type of ammo in semi auto pistols may gum up your magazines after some time but if you clean your equipment regularly that shouldn't be an issue. Manufacturers make target ammo specifically for semi automatic target pistols. Shooting cheap ammo is a no no through my Anschutz. Copper? No Gold colored Copper? No Remington Bucket o bullets? No CCI? No For the record Remington did make a special run of target ammo for the Olympics and was never re manufactured again. I shot several rounds of it and it was way to hot for my taste. eley.co.uk/faq-items/how-do-you-read-a-batch-number/ kzbin.info/www/bejne/a5uyiISJmtmHi5Y kzbin.info/www/bejne/manUiaSMa5ySlZY

KZbinR JIM ( STKO as I remember) showed recenltly us ( especially me, who has 3 pieces of different ANSHUTZ !) how to have a best results on 50/100 yards using cheap LR rifle bought in Wallmart only for 98 $ ! But he checks diameter of cartridge case and showes that it matters. Also he swowed that ammo with small bullet's dia show poor result independent from price. There exists two wayouts - to choose ammo with thicker bullet or resize them. To show the effect he used bulk ammo. And for my experiense rim thickness really matters and needs thorough checking. They explain it bekouse primer itself gives up to 20 percent of overall piwder gases, so it affect velocity

Thanks for sharing. I have a question and maybe I'm over thinking it. Wouldn't you want to weigh in grains? Seems that would be a more precise measurement and allow for better consistency. That being said I could be way off and have no clue:) I just know when reloading grains is where I find precision. Thanks again for another great video.

Yea I found it good for the mid to lower end ammo that it help with flyers and shoot tighter groups
@sell6823 жыл бұрын
By weight , is that a big convoluted, because there can be different bullet weights and powder charges which can offset one another ? What I mean is an underweight bullet but more powder which would make the round hot..

Great video man , I’ve just started sorting Ammo for my CZ455 varnit I have found that I’m getting too many flyers from SK high velocity match which I have found gives me the most consistent groups at 50 yards , yes I have tried standard velocity ammo but my rifle doesn’t seem to like any of it , do you think it’s worth measuring oal, rim thickness and weighing or just weighing also what do you think is an acceptable variation in weight between rounds , any help you or your subscribers can offer would be greatly accepted , Thanks in advance Steve .
@304rimfire53 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the late response back but what works best for me in i try to get the weights within .002 from each other and put them together like in the video and the ones that are really low and high use them for rifling the barrel in after cleaning or use to warm the barrel before you use the weighed out ammo. With rim thickness like Lapua is pretty consistent and I don’t take the rim thickness into effect because there rim thickness is very Similar.
@prone_wolf88713 жыл бұрын
I separated a whole brick of 500 by weight.... then I shot them side by side with ammo straight out of a fresh brick.......groups where soo similar.... I dont think I'll waste the time anymore, although a few targets showed improvement its never consistent enough to count on.... In the ammo I tried at least..... Rim thickness also did nothing. In my case
@raymondmills80373 жыл бұрын
All that work & you don't measure the length!. RWS are usually fine what little difference you encounter don't effect accuracy, like any Rimfire ammo you still get fliers. Their projectile also weigh 43grns not 40grn. SK ammo vary by 0.011" Centre X is the worst last brick i bought went 0.975" to 0.986. Weighed, sorted, rim gauged still shot crap.
@304rimfire53 жыл бұрын
i am now just curious if it makes a difference.
@raymondmills80373 жыл бұрын
@@304rimfire5 Well Sorting for length helps if the firearm has a chamber where the round is forced into the rifling i.e. Anshutz, CZ457 MTR, CZ457 Varmint etc etc. It helps if you can Chronograph the rounds as you fire them, Consistent velocity is what shoots the best. Had a batch of RWS R50 that only had a velocity variation of 9fps shot excellent. Have had Eley Match with velocity variations of 11/17fpsShot excellent. what you are looking for is ammo that can produce variations of 20fps or less. Currently my batch of SKLRMatch 05455/10921 shooting in both CZ457s will do ten shot groups of 0.337" @ 50mtrs. Have used this in my target rifle shoots excellent scores.P.S. Weighed & Sorted for length. Some packs are good other packs have a fair bit of weight /length variation. Ray

@@raymondmills8037 I totally agree with you some lots are way off on there weights I had some SK standard plus ready from 3.390-3.450 and just out of the box it wasn't very consistent so after weighing out the rounds that lot got a lot better and consistent. Rws-50 the first lot I shoot was damn good then got another lot shoot very poorly so I got another lot to try and shoot lights out and then got another lot and shoot very good also. Like you said your always going to have them flyers in rimfire so I'm just trying to find ways to eliminate them before shooting them every one has there own ways and I love being able to make a video like this and then get all these other opinions from people so I can learn for other commenting on the video.
@RimfireAddicted703 жыл бұрын
I've been watching your channel and sub'd for a bit. I think in the long run you're going to realize sorting ammo of this grade is pointless. Those who own premium grade rifles will overwhelmingly tell you they shot high grade ammo with no checks of any kind and have excellent results. Sorting has been debunked on multiple platforms and even BR guys who are true fanatics of accuracy to the minute degree will say buy quality skip sorting. Technique is far more important. I do wish you luck. Speaking only for myself my Vudoo shoots better than me with SK Match, Lapua Cen-X. The Rim-X builds with Midas or Tenex Match are beyond amazing accuracy never sort a round at all.
@clivenewton76093 жыл бұрын
All well and good but please remember not everyone has access to high grade ammunition all of the time! Here in the U.K. is a case in point!! Most of the good stuff stays in the U.S. 😂 I only have a Lithgow 101 and definitely weighing cheaper (American eagle) ammo, in the main improves group size.👍

You have a $2000 plus rifle/scope, nice front & rear rests, paying over $20 per box of 50 rounds ammo...... and you are spending hours testing components with the absolutely least expensive Chinese made scale you can possibly find. Also, just cause the display reads out to the third or fourth decimal place, doesn’t mean it is accurate at that resolution (goes for digital calipers also). Just sayin...
@mikeatwood73593 жыл бұрын
You might have a good point with the scale but I think the cheap scales are good enough just to find the few bullets that are way off from the others.
@304rimfire53 жыл бұрын
