Music as a realm or a place. I studied with an African drum master called Kwaku Daddy, he would say “ okay we are going here now” and at a certain point there would be a specific and very distinct tune or melody that would emerge when we had arrived…and we would no longer be playing our drums we would focus on “the melody” and we would disappear in it…when we would find it Kwaku would shout “that’s it!!!!” “Relax” we had made it to “the place”….it was truly transcendent. Gives me chills to even write about it.
