I was completely distracted by the woodpecker behind you! Great video, thanks for the info. Ironically, we have a Mt Diablo here, which is Spanish for Devils Mountain, and it suffers from QRM.

That's so funny about the woodpecker, and I noticed is more as well when making the video...was surprised it stayed around with me so close, and was wondering if people would see it in video. (-: 73, James

I also have one of those filters. Great piece of kit & it's got me out of a sticky situation several times. You just have to be careful with your transmit power as they can't handle a lot of power. Even a 5w handheld could melt it on long overs (max 30% duty cycle @ 5 watts according to the manufacturer's specifications). Great piece of kit if you're only using around 2 watts.....which I guess most SOTA activators would be.

Thank you for feedback, and agree the comment about power limits are important to know and be careful of! Excited to finally have one of these filters to use as needed. 73, James

Thank you again for nice feedback Jan! Portable radio always surprises once in a while, and I did not expect to get my longest 2m VHF contact so far from this summit. I held off on buying a 2m bandpass filter for my first 2 1/2 years of SOTA, but know most who I talk to about mention it's a valuable tool to have at some point...especially if doing SOTA on summits with many towers. I did wish I had the filter a few other times last year when using the Yaesu FT3D, even when on summits with no towers where I was getting weather reporting interference. (-:

That is an awesome 2M opening. I have one of those SOTABeams filters too, I really like it. I hope to be up your way in a month and a half. Going to do Mt. Constitution while I’m in the San Juans.

Very awesome opening for sure, and while using filter for first time... (-: Will have to listen for you on Mt. Constitution! Great summit and views there, and love visiting Orcas island. 73, James

Thank you for these videos! My daughter and I are brand new hams and have activated two summits so far but still have so much to learn! We were admiring the portable antenna set up you're using. Could you please consider doing a video on your antennas? Thanks!

Thank you Amy, and congrats to you and your daughter on being new hams and activating two summits so far!!! I've been thinking about it, and will definitely make a video(s?) about my antennas, and your kind email is great encouragement!
