Join French international model Caroline de Maigret on a guided exhibition tour of our upcoming Modernités / Contemporary auctions (21 October | Paris and London). Caroline discovers the different creative energies of Europe’s two main art capitals - the poetry of Paris and the energy of London - and gives our specialists a surprise insight into the provenance of a Picasso. Other highlights along the way include Banksy’s dissident version of a Claude Monet masterpiece, a seminal black and white composition by Bridget Riley, as well as distinctive works by Francis Picabia, Paul Klee and Daniel Buren. Watch both auctions live on sothebys.com from 4:30 PM BST / 5:30 PM CET on 21 October 2020.

I saw a different Sotheby's video showing the Basquiat in which the face was described as a skull. Considering they sell Basquiat's work for tens of millions, you would expect the to have or consult with someone who knows his work well.

It often amuse me just how tacky rich people seem to be; how easy to bullshit but then I suppose most of them regard these creations not as, "art," per se, but simply as commodities and the deft and knowing cynicism with Banksey has exploited that never fails to crack me up.

One ought to discuss artwork in a museum, or -if still alive with the maker- not with some DEALER salesman. My first question to this corporate person would be : Could you first explain your scam which serves your business model ? Or: Show me your list of customers / consumers for which you set up this whole posh circus? Or: Did you made your sideburns grey yoursèlf to look more 'intelligent'?!

No lady puts her hands in her pockets. Not to mention both of them. And then walk. This tells you a lot about her background and strength of character. Which would not be a tragedy, but pretending to be what you are not is embarrassing. And intellectually, in what way did someone think she was qualified for such a clip? She knows nothing about art. She is nothing but a pretty front, an eye catcher. So typical for Sotheby’s. But the people who fall for it are the like and deserve no better. 🤣

So you want to cancel a dead man from another era. Yet you claim to love Clyfford Still whose second marriage was to his own student 16 years younger than him. Whatever Picasso did was documented as consensual, we weren't there and "we" can't judge. Like Mr. Still, he was a grown ass man who can do whatever the hell he wants. And who exactly is "we", this isn't a collective hive mind. I hate Picasso's work, but I hate blue pilled white knight internet hall-monitors even more.
