Oldster here...I don't know if anyone under 50 understands just how HUGE this album was back then. Yes; Soul II Soul was WAY ahead of their time. I know there is still great music around of course...but...they didn't have to attract with a gimmick or shock; they were simply talented.

It was Hype Williams. And with all due respect Fuck Belly. I was definitely a SIIS fan but by the time the movie came out we were all tired of this song already. It played in clubs All The Time. I either think of Belly when I hear this or just the summer of the 90's with cook-out parties and going to the club.

LOL I have great memories to this song, but also bad ones. I once spent a week doing WAY too much cocaine with a friend and Belly was like the only DVD we had playing the whole time. Started gagging up blood at the end, not good.

Let me share my memory of when i first heard this like everyone else.Springtime i think it was 1992.At the SoundFactory here in NYC on a saturday night. We had been partying into the wee hours. It was 3 or 4 in the morning.Junior Vasquez played this acapella version. We were standing in the middle of the dance floor wondering what this sound was.THEN THE BEAT DROPPED! The rest is history. The song still bumps after 20 years.

This song was beginning of ALL the music that came after it! This was such a COMPLETE GAME CHANGER!!! All the intricate details, the offbeat claps, the sample of the beat being the center of the song, just everything about Jazzie B's style as a father of new R&B and Hip Hop.

"Cold fresh air, feel the melody that's in the air. Oh yeah." I have always liked the way Caron Wheeler sings those words. Seriously, though, 1:25, 2:18, 2:33 and 2:53. I can remember being on The A train in NYC going from Far Rock, Queens to Downtown Brooklyn and listening to this song. Those times that I listed really made me take notice. I realized then that Soul II Soul would be timeless.
