The story behind his blindness and strange sounds is actually pretty cool, though. Voldo became blind and mute due to his dedication to guarding the Money Pit and protecting Vercci's (his master) treasure. The Money Pit was quite dark, and Voldo went without nourishment for more than a few decades which is how Voldo became who he is now.

One of the things I hate most about the HD Online version of this game is how they shortened Voldo's death cry.

It's weird that they didn't include Voldo's death cry in the voice clips of his character profile in SC3. Maybe they forgot?
