Super Bon Bon is my dog's favorite song lol! He's had the same fav toy since be was a puppy, a bunny named "Bun-bun." At some point, I played the song for him and told him it's "The Bun-bun song." He's loved it ever since and goes wild when I play it for him.

My younger brother was in HS when Super Bon Bon came out and one of his friends had a theory about what the song was about. I'm not saying that this IS what it was about, but the friend said he thought it was about the men's room in one of the NY museums, because the men's room at the time was a pay toilet on the mezzanine level

I used to annoy my friends with Super Bon Bon Propellerheads remix and used to sing it as "Move aside and let the mango through. Let the mango through." Not misheard, just more entertaining.

A popular YT channel covering a band like SC is incredibly rare and I'd like to thank you so much for this. Every day I check KZbin's search results for new videos and none of them surpass 1,000 views. I was actually listening to my favorite Soul Coughing songs last night on my drive home. My favorite is Lazybones. That song has got such a unique, chill vibe to it. The constant guitar notes that start out the song, and stay constant throughout the entire tune. The syncopated drum beats, the low and hypnotic bass line. And then Doughtry's lyrics flowing through, with his signature "uuuhh" sound at the end of nearly every sentence. It's just such a fantastic track. It always reminds me of how I felt as a teenager, on a hot summer evening, right as dusk is fading into night. With nothing to do but watch the sky shift to darkness and stars. The sounds of animals and traffic flowing through my open window as a backing track to the season. That song truly transports me.

I would see these guys performing all the time in 1994-95 when I was in graduate school where I was getting an MFA. I lived in Williamsburg Brooklyn and Soul Coughing was playing in all of our studios while we worked. We would leave our studios in Chelsea and head down to the Lower East side and would see them and other great bands at the Knitting Factory or Max Fish or some tiny loft “club” that just sprang up the week before and would probably be closed by the end of the month. They were a gem something only we knew and we hoped to keep it that way. You say they only sold 70,000 albums and I think they all went to me and my friends. Seriously was a great band and a small group of devoted fans that circled around them. Skateboarders , of which I was one, loved them . Was bummed that they broke up but I’m glad to see Mike is doing better I had heard he was in a bad place for a while. Thanks for the video.

I saw them for the first time in Cleveland in the Fall of 96 at the Odeon - stood right up front next to the stage, and they brought the place down that night. One of the best shows I've ever seen. It was pure manic insanity. I then saw them three or four more times after that before they broke up, but nothing was like that first time. I only knew one song and just decided to check them out on a whim - Failure opened that night too - and I became a fan for life after that. When El Oso came out, they played the bigger Agora theater - and that show was insane too. Great live band. I really wish they would've lasted longer.

They had one of the greatest websites of any band, ever. Well crafted, well thought out....lyrics, stories about the songs. The day they split up, the home screen just said (I'm paraphrasing) "After so many years and three albums we have decided to go separate ways". One day it was business as usual, the next they were gone. Sometimes I don't know if I miss them or the website more!

I saw them touring when they were opening for They Might be Giants. I remember them being one of the few opening acts the Giants ever had the audience really seemed to genuinely enjoy. I was used to one of the Johns having to come out before the opening act and remind the audience to treat the opener with respect because despite what the audience may think, they were chosen to be the opening act because both John and John enjoyed their music. (Soul Coughing and OK Go) are honestly, those are the only two opening acts I've seen with TMBG that I even remember despite having seen them dozens of times. I know I went out and bought their first two albums immediately and then El Oso as soon as it came out. I still have all three of them on rotation to this day.

I accidently discovered them in the Knitting Factory in the beginning of my NYC internship 1993 and joined all their 10 concerts during my half year there. Loved it sooo much. Mark Degli Antoni gave me a demo tape with the most intense version of Screenwriter's Blues, my most favourite SC track. So sad they split up. Best live band I ever saw.

Always been a big fan of Soul Coughing and of Mike Doughty in particular. I bought a copy of skittish on burned CD and had him sign it when he came to my college. I still prize that album and it made it clear he was the Soul of Soul Coughing.

My favorite television series in the ‘90s (in fact, of all time) was “Homicide: Life of the Streets” and a “Super Bon Bon” led off the season five finale “Strangers and Other Partners.” It immediately got my attention and before you know it, Soul Coughing became my favorite band of the ‘90s. I love Mike’s solo work, particularly his work from the aughts, but Soul Coughing, the band, was classic and possibly the most unique and certainly most underrated band of the ‘90s.

I went to a show once to see one of the opening bands for Mike Doughty as a solo artist. It was around the time that “Looking at the world from the bottom of a well” was getting some radio play. I didn’t get to watch his whole performance as the friends I went with weren’t interested. I ended up looking him up shortly after and found his album Haughty Melodic. It became one of the soundtracks to my early 20’s when I was really finding out who I was. It’s still one of my favorite albums. When I heard Soul Coughing for the first time, I didn’t understand it. It was weird to me. The longer I listened, the more I liked them. Really unique stuff. I’ve since seen Doughty play a couple live shows and they were great. It’s a little disheartening to read all of these comments about him being a douche. I always thought he seemed like a nice dude.

This band truly hook me in when they came out, and I may be one of the few people alive that can say they are one of the top three favorite acts ever..... Well top 10. (Leonard Cohen, Tom waits, Pink Floyd, the Beastie boys, Weezer, the Eels Roy Orbison, Johnny Cash, the verve, Bowie, Annie DiFranco, Sun Kil Moon, Radiohead......0k, top 15.... Still, True Dreams of Wichita and Screenwriters Blues are two of the best songs I've ever heard)

As a relatively new Soul Couching fan who discovered the band from finding El Oso and Irresistible Bliss at Goodwill and listening to them in my beat up old truck I have to say I'm really dissappointed that their highest rated song was Circles.
