Imdyinginside About the cannon thing,the manga of both series are cannon to one another(from the author).Anime wise Soul eater deviates from the manga half way through while Soul Eater Not stay more closely.Other than that there isn’t anything that says one isn’t cannon.Whether plot or statements from the author or the studio. Also the real reason is the new series just has a different art style that doesn’t suit the older cast design.I was just trying to answer it plot wise.

Well as someone who hails SE as his #1 Anime of choice and loved opening 2's opening to the point where I can recite the full 4+ minute version in the japanese lyrics, I can see why a lot of people don't like this spinoff: It's girly,not nearly as badass as the original, a different genre altogether, it's just not the Soul Eater at all. But I think it's not bad in of itself, it's just that this genre doesn't click with Soul Eater fans. Can anyone who actually likes this genre tell me how this holds up as one of those anime.

***** Yeah I guess the main hate comes from the genre it's from, besides that I really do somewhat like this series, but not as much as the 1st anime. I guess it's because I'm more of a shonen anime kinda of guy since before this my anime lineup was pretty much Naruto, Dragonball, and Dragonball Z. And this is my ranking(shonen only). 1. Soul Eater 2. Dragon Ball 3. Dragon Ball Z 4.Naruto 5.Naruto Shippuden The main reason why I like soul eater more than DBZ and Naruto mainly for one main reason: SE, DBZ and Naruto all have a cast of likable and interesting characters, but it's only soul eater who maintains those characters worth and not only having about a a small fraction of them being as relevant as they were from the start. You don't have like 16 good characters then only have like 1-5 of them being the only ones that matter in the end and pretend that making them overpowered makes up for that. Near the start you had like Maka, Soul, Kid, Tsubaki, Liz, Patty, Spirit, Stein, Sid, Lord Death, Crona, etc. And near the (admittedly rush) ending I did not noticed any significant degrading in their relevance to the plot. Though if I do have to criticize something, it's the fact that there are interesting characters who do not get enough focus, take Kilik for example the black( I'm black as well so don't freak out about me using his race to distinguish him.) meister whose weapons are 2 twin breakdancing girls who can turn into boxing gloves that get a fire and thunder boost. He sounds awesome, but we don't get enough of him( though I've read that's fixed in the manga). Sorry for my tirade, just wanted to get that out their.

I watched a bit of Soul Eater Not and one or two of the main characters from the original Soul Eater are shown once in one episode for one or two scenes that are barely two minutes long, after that we don't see any of them for couple of episodes. That was a major disappointment for me. The main characters from the original Soul Eater are just cameos either for show, appear in a scene only to make it awkward, are asked for help or support from the current main characters but they just tell them that they can do it then leave or they briefly demonstrate what they need to do and then leave. In other words, they are down played.
