So great to see James Alexander one of the surviving members of the Bar-Kays after the tragedy. Also greats like Wills Hall, Michael Toles and Skip Pitts. These guys are master musicians. Isaac had awesome band...

I loved the original Shaft, but I'd pay a lot of money to watch a whole film of the making of Shaft. This is fascinating stuff, and the brother with the red, black and green leather liberation hat is EVERYTHING!

@@FiveoooSpot I'm old enough to remember when Isaac was so hot that they made a movie of him in concert. It was terrific, and then he was in WattStax, another great movie.

That's Charles "Skip" Pitts---the originator of the wah wah guitar riff on the tune "Shaft". It wasn't planned. Mr Pitts was tuning up and testing his wah wah pedal and Mr Gordon Parks asked him to continue doing that Something as simple as warming up becomes an epic guitar riff for an epic album

This is what fascinates me about filmmaking in that it's a miracle they ever get done (esp. lower budget films), with all the detail involved. Like, if RR botched the bottle hit, that means you gotta clean up everyone and everything, set everything back up again and try again, and HOPE he gets it right the 2nd time. Gotta love old cinema!

I remember watching Shaft as a young 7 years old child in NC. I loved Isaac Hayes. Richard ROUNDTREE good actor and good looking to boot. One of my fav TV shows in the early 1970s. The best decade of ALL time.

It's on an early DVD of Shaft. I don't know if later reissues of Shaft on DVD have this bonus feature. I saw this on my uncle's Shaft DVD late 90's or early 2000's.

@joe Jones, not because you think it means it’s the truth. Instead of saying “ the truth is “, how about saying , I think. For a movie made 1970/71, low budget, I think it was one Baaad Mutha….( I better Shut My Mouth ) !!!

Yeah it is but times were different and we have to accept that because nothing we can do to change it. They had better film and television then though so I always prefer classics.

The truth is that this movie wasn't all that much, and Shaft was such a superman that a lot of what he did in the movie was kind of corny as well as predictable. What really made this movie great was the musical genius of Issac Hayes.
@Phillyguy316 Жыл бұрын
I agree. Without Isaac Hayes iconic score I don't think the film would have been as effective, even though Richard Roundtree was very good in the role as John Shaft, but that score took the movie to another level.
