I'm a Hispanic women (minority), say what you want to say. As a conservative I advocate for free speech, that includes defending the right of those who I completely 100% disagree with.

I honestly used to like Soul Khan until Drect started posting these videos of his interview on Rap Grid really changed my view on him and not for the better

I have to respectfully completely disagree. I see where he's coming from and there is a line you shouldn't cross like talking about a recent death and things to that effect. However, I don't think saying ignorant shit and being racist etc is crossing that line. For me that's the appeal of battle rap; Being as ignorant, disrespectful and most of all creative to diss your opponent. As long as both battlers know what they're getting into and shake hands afterwards it's good. Most fans don't see their favorite rapper call someone a faggot and then are influenced to hate on gays.

Battle rap is a war with words (lyrically killing the opponent). plain and simple. You don't go to war, kill the opponent and then turn around and feel sorry for them. if that's the case, leave the culture as is, go be a preacher, imam, or an activist. I agree with everything he's saying, but that's outside of battle rap. like the UFC octagon, outside of it we cool. in it, people trynna take eachother heads off. As violence as that is, nobody isn't saying oh, it breeds violence. Battle rap didn't create the way society is, it came from out of the same fcukd up society. So if you feel the need to be righteous, they have other arenas for that. RAPGRID keep it up.

first off Kids should not be watching battle rap. anyone under 18 really shouldn't be listening to this sh*t. if you were a parent you'd understand that. and as far as teaching kids to not be offended? how? by saying the most overly offensive sh*t you can say to another human? thats called being an a$$hole. you're exactly who Soul Kahn was referring to in his interview. smfh lost

+Coach By teaching kids to recognize malice? Its really not that difficult. Context is important. You obviously can't teach people to never be offended, but you can teach people to recognize situations where it actually makes sense to be offended. and lol @ anyone under 18 shouldn't be listening to this. A good parent would teach their kids the differences between something like this and the real world, the same way they would with offensive movies or TV. If you feel like your child watching battle rap would have some negative impact on your kid you're probably not doing your enough as a parent. Just like if your kid can't watch a movie with swear words or violence and doesn't know not to carry those words/actions over to their evryday life, that is you not teaching them. It has nothing to do with the kids.

Coach how about the classic sticks and stones may break my bones but words can never hurt me? and nobody under 18 should be allowed to watch battle rap? are you serious? 18 in America is considered a legal adult and you want ppl to be so sheltered growing up that they cant even view a battle til they old enough yo go across the world and kill ppl for this ,country? thats absolutely ridiculous . no wonder ppl are becoming bigger and bigger pussies year after year. how about teaching kids good values and right and wrong instead of just sheltering them from everything my god

We need Soul Khan back. He's like one of few who takes accountability for the culture and it's actions and doesn't contribute to hate speech JUST because it's the cool thing to do. Most of these battle rappers are just perpetrating some image that they ain't really about, they just following a formula that is already established. And they don't even think about what they're doing more than they're gonna get a check at the end of the day. Step your game the fuck up.

Finally, a mature and honest conversation about the impact of language within a subculture. Shout out to all the critical thinkers who can disengage from their reptilian brains when needed. Drect, your interview topics are getting better and better.

I understand that it's 2015 and the world is more politically correct and that people are easily offended by people calling people jews/faggots etc. However, if you're someone that is so easily offended that you can watch a battle and it makes you feel worse about things/yourself, then why in the bloody hell would you knowingly watch a rap battle?? It's specifically designed to tear someone down. I'm a fat dude, so if I were offended by people making fun of someone else's weight (which I'm not), I'd just excuse myself from watching Rone battle fat people. It's like watching Smack battles and complaining that people talk about guns and drugs.

how do you not understand that he's not talking about himself being offended or the fan being offended? he's speaking about the fans regurgitating that ish back to people they are around. calling their neighbors out their names and ish like that.

Coach He had another video like this where a person came up to him and thought that he hated gay people because he repeatedly used the word faggot, and SK said that hit him hard. I guess my comment was more of a rebuttal to that point of view specifically.

Drect we need more interviews like this one brother. Alot of us fans might have the wrong impression about what our favorite battlerappers might actually feel. I think people are taking Soul Khan’s words here WAY out of context Think about it like this. It’s not bad, to make an angle in a Battle, that involves the opponent’s sexuality, political views, personal views on Life, their race, background, etc. even Death isn’t off the board What Soul Khan is talking about? Is when you go way too far. JUST to be like, I’m supposed to get personal. While the involving people who have NOTHING to do with the situations in ANY WAY Let’s go with the Death aspect. Sure, in Battle Rap, it’s expected people will say some shit to get under your skin There IS a point where you go OD into the personals. Where it’s not even skillful anymore It’s literally just saying fuck your dead Dad and Mom. And disrespecting them in every single way It’s one thing, if you’re RESPONDING to that. Cuz then it’s fair play, both sides go OD Like let’s take Arsonal for example, some of the relative bars he has for opponents? Is like shit that would get you knocked TF out then stomped dead over saying Like he was doing FAR more than what was needed And it all, takes away from the point of Battle Raps. The raps and how you can demean a person without stooping to their levels

Mass media also teaches us they we can't even speak about the topic either. Like Talking about Jews you're anti Semitic, and talking about gays makes you a homophobic begot. Can't compare being black to being gay either. Blacks don't have a choice, ppl choose to be gay. We're not here to fulfill our lust and greed. Man and Woman can make baby, not man and man or woman and woman. That's means something!! It's not like I don't accept ppl for being gay. I have an aunt and uncle that are gay but teaching ppl to be gay is wrong, and not being able to say how you feel is wrong. Fucking media tells the world gay ppl get picked on and y'all believe it. Why, all because HS sucked and your shitty parents didn't accept you? Fuck the crybaby shit
