@AussiefromleDoubs The story is about overcoming obstacles life throws your way. It takes a strong person to get back up on that horse, or surfboard in Bethany's case. Her life was changed drastically while she was doing what she loved. That love doesn't change just because life does. If she can help people cope with what they are going through with her story, that's awesome! Her story inspired others because she chose not to let her accident prevent her from doing something she loves.

She loves surfing. She lost her arm to a shark attack while surfing. The fact she she decided to start surfing again AT ALL is awesome. She could have given up but she didnt. The messege of the movie and the story is to never give up. The fact that it has to do with surfing is just a small part. If you dont like the movie, then stop arguing about it because honestly, you are wasting your time talking about something you think is so "absurd."

The movie isnt directed only to surfers who lost a limb. Its directed at teenagers or anyone who have suffered a loss in their life and just want to give up. This movie shows that no matter what you have to keep trying. It give truth to the saying "if you fall off the horse, you get right back on." Hollywood gives a bigger light to this by making a movie about never giving up. I think that this is one of the biggest insperations for young people to keep trying, no matter what.

@MikeDaFerret But she didn't ONLY get bit by a shark and survived, she had the courage to go back in the water, where there's gazillions more sharks, and keep on surfing with ONE ARM! Most shark attack survivors are afraid of the water and won't keep living their lives like they did before. But Bethany Hamilton did. And that's what makes her so special.

@ghostnightmare2001 God did not allow the shark attack because He believed that she deserved it, but rather that it was a part of the plan He had for her life. It was very painful and very difficult for her, but she became a new person because of it. God in turn has been able to work incredible miracles through her that He couldn't have before. It was not a punishment, it was a blessing!

There is this little boy named jesse who used to live near me. He went to the beach one day with his grandpa. he was pllaying in shallow water when a shark bit off his arm. The shark was stuck in the shallow so his grandpa pulled the shark onto the shore and pulled out the boy's arm. Its been reatached but he'll never have full use back. They thought he might have bad brain damage from massive blood loss, but he doesn't. That kept me away from the ocean for six years.
