A Beginners Guide to Magic in Legacy of Valyria (CK3 AGOT)

I saw tons of questions on the magic system for Legacy of Valyria on their discord and while this may become dated UI wise, this should still help you grasp the basics of how to unlock/discover magic. If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to comment and I'll try my best to help!

Major Note: after a recent update the UI has been dramatically altered since this video. Magic is now largely held in the book icon on the right side of the screen. Scrolls appear to have been tweaked to cost more as have some other things. But, that said, most of the information and application is still similar enough that I don’t feel weird leaving this up. I knew it would be outdated eventually, didn’t expect it to be a day later 😂

Also, when you make your followers or courtiers into apprentices they are given a random spell and when you go to enact mystery you can select any of your mages to have them cast their spells on you or another character and this is a way to get access to some spells you might not previously have access to without having to pay or travel

Currently if you're a dragon rider, dragon fire serves as the reagent for crafting magical items which gives you 50 points which is enough to craft Valyrian steel weapons without any additional resources

One thing I do when starting a mage run is to craft a magical artifact (or you can use any artifact, it doesn't really matter, I just like having a ring of power as a kind of a larp lol) and then continiously cast enchantment of passive drops of power gain, and since this modifiers stacks after enough spells I basically always have max drops of power. You can also use it to cast some experience gain to study magic much faster

I did this to a brooch I won from a tournament, Had 500% exp gain on every school of magic so that if I died, my heir (who I taught every spell I know to) could have fast track to becoming a master mage.

Nice I’ve been looking at some of the stuff in the mod and was wondering with some things, would you ever consider doing a settling video for the ruins? it says you can settle Valyria using magic but it seems to be unavailable every time and the money always seems out of reach cause the bigger you are the harder the settlement so it’s difficult great video of course.

So being born under the red comet will also allow u to hold more drops of power then just your acolyte trait.. that can only hold so many drops.. u get born under a red comet trait you get reserve drops of power storage and also idk how many ppl know this but I think ppl should know that with this mod is an added adventure to every timeline im not sure haven’t tested fully called the hidden scholars the always spawn with I believe 3 to 5 dragon eggs and a mage sword called mages fyre that give a + 15 % to learning in all schools of magic and is what it think the best roaming like scholar adventure playstyle of a person trying to learn magic and bring back dragons or if playing in a time with dragons hatching the eggs as u dont have dragon blood with the vanilla adventure but I recommend trying it I’ve looked up reddits and stuff and nobody talks about this adventure or his sword an dragon eggs so I think for anybody that wants an interesting start there u go ❤

Immortal dragons sound kinda op, imagine a 700 year old dragon that just dwarves balerion the black dread, and have you tested that if you die, the dragon lives and keeps the trait or not? Hope they keep this feature in the mod, sounds very fun

In my experience, the dragon loses the trait if it's not bonded with anyone.

Looks like they moved most of the magic stuff to the book labeled admin government (probably a bug) on the right hand side of the screen

I heard you say that you think this might be a bug, but it isnt- all dragons get immortality when they live in or are kept in Valyria. Its not from them being bonded to you and you being immortal. Its kinda dumb and OP in my opinion, dragons should get some life expectancy buff but not outright immortality imo, but thats how it is

Do any happen to know how the new system for colonizing valyria work? or where i can find out more info? When i started a new game it told me it cost like around 4000 gold to colonize valyria, then when i had played a bit it said it cost 6000 gold? it just went up more and more in prize 😅

It’s based on realm size actually so the bigger you are, the more it goes up. I think the cap I’ve seen is around 35k

The dragon is innmortal cuz all dragons on valyria gains that trait. Any dragon in valyria will be inmortal and gain a growth buff (a 20 years old dragon in valyria will be much bigger than a 20 years old dragon anywhere else even if it's a wild dragon)

Hey, at the moment any spell I try to cast kills me. It says 25% but I have died everysingel time. With diffrent spells at diffrent times. This was not before in the playthrough.

Works fine for me. I always build rings of power as soon as the game starts. You just need to sacrifice one of your courtiers. You can make 4 giving yourself a boost from game start

It costs 50,000 gold to put the Draconic Consumption spell into a scroll, how did you put it into a scroll?

Oh they def nerfed it then. It was 1500 when I did it. But you can get like 1500 a cast with max alchemy and transmutate gold.
