So.. This is a strange one... Despite the 360/ps3 editions being hd they still have a few drawbacks. Such as lower quality texture filtering on distant objects and at oblique angles, within each stage environment. The other noticeable change is the lighting, which seems to have been increased in strength and colour temperature. But appears to be clipping over details on both stages & characters due to light being overexposed. Now some may like the brighter colour temperature but the downside is its lowering the contrast overall and skin tones appear less natural compared to the original consoles. However if you can overlook these things and want to enjoy the game in wide-screen HD then ps3/360 is the way to go! Now then on to the og consoles.... The short answer is fairly straightforward. It's Xbox/NGC/Ps2 in that order. Ps2 surprisingly has the lowest image quality, very soft, likely not native 640×480. Lots of aliasing, texture filtering is almost non-existent, and polycounts may have been lowered. Probably all done to maintain 60fps so definitely the right move here! Gamecube is somewhere in the middle here though if deflicker filter is in use, then image quality will improve when removed. Xbox is by far the best of the bunch. With sharper texture detail, improved aa, lighting effects, character shadows are very sharp, and has the option to render at 720p but without widescreen so 4:3 only. Otherwise 16:9 at 480p. Anyhoo... Those are the differences. The bottom line is all versions play well regardless. Run at 60fps most of the time. With an exclusive character for each of the 3 consoles. So enjoy!

Ps2 has the better colors and lighting effects seem more better on it. Also look at 0:54 you can see the mip mapping on all the other consoles making the floor in the distance blurry while the ps2 stays sharp.

the xbox version has real 720p mode... just choose 720p on the dashboard and use component video cable. It is one of the HD resolution compatible games.

Yes, but the GCN and Xbox versions still top the PS2 version. GCN for including Link and fast load times. Xbox for having 720p and Dolby Digital.

The PS2 versión doesn't have loading times... And the OG game come out to play it on CRTs 4:3 that the most that they can support are 480p.... I have a GC and a PS2 and always play it on the Sony console, the lights looks alot better bring me a more impact visual

It's rather obvious which version is the best, isn't it? GameCube, of course, because it’s the only version with Link, and it’s also a good time to play Link right now since Tears of the Kingdom has recently been released. As for the other versions, they’re really nothing special because the PS2 version features Heihachi, whereas the Xbox version features Spawn, both of which are also featured in the HD PS3 and Xbox 360 versions, and they don’t just include one of those either. PS3 has both Heihachi and Spawn, and Xbox 360 has both of them as well. So, GameCube version for Link and either the PS3 or Xbox 360 versions for Spawn and Heihachi.

@poof Not to mention, faster load times and crisper audio in the Xbox version. The thing I dislike the most about the GameCube version is that the audio suffers from more compression than the others, but the GameCube version is preferred by many because of the reasons I stated above. In fact, Link is the sole reason why GameCube sold the most copies of this superb game.

OG xbox supports 720p if you have the official HD AV pack. it doesnt support widescreen at that resolution tho

GameCube is the favorite one of course, makes good use of its hardware and even includes Link. Xbox is just as great, too. Has the highest resolution (720p) and native Dolby Digital.

The PS2 version is the closest to the Arcade version, why? The hardware is very similar, only Namco characters and the detailed colors are almost exactly the same. The other versions have subtle differences that make them feel different and although they are good, I keep the version of PlayStation. 😄

@@ToyotaKudoFan No... If you remove the filter these are exactly the same, since the hardware is very similar... the PS2 added that effect by default... anyway it is only a video mode, since it also had progressive scan which produced completely sharp images.

Nope. Soul caliber 1 comes close. Soul caliber 3 being PS2 exclusive and having a memory card erasing bug/glitch ruined all the progress in the game. Soul caliber 3 would've been great had it skipped the PS2 and ported straight to the PS3 and Xbox 360 with the memory card bug fixed, HD graphics and all the arcade software updates included.
