Interestingly, Galen Marek aka The Apprentice marks his debut on this game before his own standalone game Force Unleashed. Since Soul Calibur was released on Jul 2008 and Force Unleashed on Sep 2008. Even though, he originated from Star Wars and is a guest character. Honestly, it’s a perfect introduction for a Star Wars character to make his first appearance before their own game comes out.

So if you guys don’t understand what’s going on in the first minute of the intro I’ll explain. Unlike the rest of the intro, the first minute is actually incredibly important to the franchise’s story, as it explains the origins of the sword Soul Calibur (aka why and how it was created). So here’s what happened: Algol used Soul Edge to spread peace, and was powerful enough to resist the sword’s vicious nature. His son, Arcturus, became jealous of his father’s power, and Soul Edge possessed Arcturus (kinda like how Soul Edge possessed Siegfried). Forced with no other option, Algol had to kill his son, and Algol sworn to create a sword to be as powerful as Soul Edge, and counter the evil of the cursed sword, or to simply be the opposite in behavior. After many failed attempts, Soul Calibur was finally created (created by the purified fragments of Soul Edge) at the cost of Algol’s life, but it was somewhat a failure, as Soul Calibur shared a lot of the same evil traits as Soul Edge. There you go :)

Starkiller's appearance in this game is to do a promotional tie-in for the then-upcoming Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. Him being called "The Apprentice" is basically just to tease Star Wars fans into buying The Force Unleashed if they want to find who this guy is.

My “issue” with the lightsaber vs sword isn’t necessarily about how it should cut through the thing, it’s more about how for some reason Mitsurugi swings his Katana around LIKE a lightsaber, he does tapping parries and it looks unnatural for him to use an unorthodox stance where he starts tapping his sword with his opponents.

If you remember it's explained how the Felucians were able to deflect lightsaber with jawbones infused with the force they used as weapons because they where stong in the force Its mentioned in the game that the characters are strong in the force or the dark side .Darth Desolus had a shield that could deflect lightsabers too

+J Davis There's been a couple, like the Force Unleashed Wii Multiplayer and the Clone Wars dueling game, but yeah, we need a REAL Star Wars fighting game. If you're looking for lightsaber duels, Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy is probably your current best bet (not really a fighting game, but it does have excellent dueling gameplay).

You know what I'm thinking: There needs to be a new "good" Star Wars fighting game. The only ones I can think of are Masters of Teras Kasi (PSX), Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (PS2), and Soul Calibur IV (PS3/360). Think about how much potential it would have to play as Boba Fett, Darth Maul, Dash Rendar, Han Solo, The Emperor, his Royal Guards...anyone and everyone from Star Wars! Maybe even Jabba the Hutt! BTW, when is Battlefront finally coming out??

Yeah, I had Bounty Hunter and got kinda far. Never played Jedi Knight, but I did beat PSX's Dark Forces, which stars Kyle Katarn in FPS game that is actually fun and difficult if you can get over the pixels and the sewer monsters. It's very similar to Doom. N64's Shadow of the Empire is definitely better, but quite shorter. I still need to play Rouge Squadron. Wait a sec, I was talking about good Star Wars FIGHTING games...which are basically non-existent.

@@sniper5880 Didn't get your response, but I think OT has a lot of potential. Most people can relate more to that because their stories are simple, and it also what Disney has been focusing on. I like the prequels as well, but most only like bits and pieces like Darth Maul or Order 66, but fighters like Grevious definitely have potential. It seems kinda tricky because the Jedi are similar to wizards and gods, and would probably wreck "normal" lucky characters like Leia and Han Solo, plus Luke during ESB and RotJ are hard to guage against prequel fighters, sure he survived and eventually beat Vader, but what does that mean? Would Vader really defeat everyone from back then? Seems intriguing to have a non-canon mash up.

Star Wars Legends (when much of it was canon) established that not everything can be cut with a lightsaber. Even in videogames they prove this with two RPG's by Bioware and Obsidian (KOTOR series with Cortosis swords) and two FPS/TPS by Raven Software (Jedi Knight: Jedi Outcast with Cortosis AND Jedi Academy with Marka Ragnos' sword used in the final battle should the light side ending be chosen)

2 and 3 both in their own respects. 2 had many more modes for hardcore players. (I am not one) and of course, link in the gamecube version who is broken as fuck. (I love him... figuratively speaking) 3 had the best character-specific story mode. (although the extra fights that can be fought are ridicolously hard) It also had a nice semi-strategic semi-rpg mode which is a lot of fun... chronicle 17 excluded.

VIPER 4560 I believe you can get them all on either Xbox 360 or PS3, it was originally Yoda was Xbox 360 exclusive and Darth Vader was PS3 exclusive but they released them as DLC later on.

+PrincessCadence2012 It was explained in an online tie-in story called "Star Wars: Visions Of The Blade" explaining why Darth Vader and Yoda are there. Basically the clash between Nightmare and Sigfried ontop of the tower unleashed such power that the reverberations of their power could be felt across the galaxy which caught the eye of both Yoda and Vader and sought out the blades. Yoda to destroy them and Vader wanting to claim them so he could gain the power needed to overthrow Palpatine.

MegaMan NextGen Both games show that lightsabers can't cut everything as later in Jedi Outcast, you'll fight soldiers in Cortosis suits, which in that same game, Luke notes it being lightsaber resistant. In the KOTOR games, there are Cortosis made swords you start out with before getting your lightsaber. In Soul Calibur's sake, given the series love for magical or superpowerful weaponry, I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case.
