I've been playing Metal Guitar 22 years now... (you do anything almost daily for that long you get good), and I got to meet Mark Rizzo (Soulfly / Guitar) and speak directly to him: Q&A.. (he is one of my Guitar Idols/inspiration), and I asked him to tell me about this song, since it is my favorite Soulfly Song! He said: "I wanted to make an old school "Ode to Thrash" style of song... so his Drummer at the time just unleashed this insane like 230 BPM Tempo and he fuckin Belt it out, in like two takes 15-20 minutes.... then Max incorperated the killer Lyrics! Just like that... this BEAST of a track was born! I like Mark because hes friendly, VERY diverse at Guitar, and just Humble! his Metal Riffs are just BRUTAL... i.e, this fucking Breakdown! Putting aside the lyrics, it sounds like the old Sepultura from Morbid Visions till Beneath The Remains somehow. It seems like Max still retaining the Sepultura Roots even to this day, at his Soulfly era, and mixing it with his actual Progue stuff. Sounds good.
