The DE art team has said in the past that they like to make things out of the ordinary, styles not often seen. I can see a lot of that in the game play. That alone is already refreshing, I can't wait to see where it goes from here.

Makes me sad that DE would put so much resources towards trying their hand at a souls-like game when they could instead focus on making conclave better. Yes, I’m serious. Games like Naraka make me believe that warframe PvP could be done right if they gave it some love and attention. I know PvP is taboo but I’ve also been with WF from the beginning and I believe quality PvP or dare I say a wf BR could not only be an incredible cash cow and opportunity to display and push much more tennogen, it would breathe some very fresh air into this amazing community and game that we all love so very much. 🎉❤

With DE it's really hard to tell if the lack of any form of difficulty is a product of the pre alpha state or a conscious design decision.

DE has the hardest time with balance and difficulty. in warframe its often a product of the ridiculous power creep.. but if soulframe cant deliver balanced difficulty in its much reduced sandbox thats going to be very disappointing and will hut its longevity.

@@icesharkk6399 Warframe struggles with difficulty, they announce this and everyone goes "Does this mean we're getting a soulslike?" DE could've been like "Yeah we hear you, you want a challenge, so we're gonna try being a little like that but not entirely" but instead just went "nope". The game can still be fun without ridiculously tough bosses, but imo it would seriously benefit from them. Hopefully later on, way later on, bringing raid like content to Soulframe will be easier than for Warframe. Just add one proper Soulslike boss, tough as nails, hits hard, maybe has a few level mechanics to break it down. I think that would be nice

yeah i have been and wil continue to champion for better difficulty as a preludes player, i think the core at the difficulty problem is the enemy level and scalling system they are using which is basically the same as in warframe

ya, i been defending this as DE cooks, but i have to agree the game is beautiful, DE devs and art are great, they are masters at the craft, but.... there needs to be something "oh shit that's awesome!" even a boring medieval rpg game, there's story that reminds u of LOTR or d&d, but this is unique enough it doesn't even have that shooting flashy rainbows out of a bionic arm isn't enough the duviri-like steampunk-earth-magic enemies aren't enough maybe the story will? maybe? there needs to be rage, fear, wrath, vengeance, ego, power, idols, destruction,... and i'm just not seeing that

Yeah they don't really listen, when People ask for Universal Vakuum for 7! Years and then nerf it before they undo it but still give it back with Reduced Range, then the Sentient Frame which people only Voted because they thought they had the 500IQ move in making an Eidolon Killer Frame but DE made it that his DMG is useless, then the other Commuity Frame years back is still kicking, seems the Community Changed, but to say it, they only listen to Stuff Steve likes, he is not open to critisism he had a Meltdown during New War when People said the Writing was Meh he had a Meltdown on Twitter and deleted these tweets the next day.

I wouldn't be too disappointed. you probably did yourself a favor. I player. the game lacks almost everything that would make a game fun. (currently) So you'd be better off taking a look further on in dev. For myself playing it now killed any sort of hope I had for it being anything good.

for a pre pre alpha, I've been mostly having fun once i got a hang of my abilities. i enjoy the pace of combat and vibe a lot, but there's definitely a lot of stuff to fix. i agree the nightfold is pretty sick, it feels very cozy to me. I'll be interested to see how the game progresses, i think that with more content and polish it'll be pretty nice

4:16 thats kinda what the joinaries are for or will be for, so instead of having to farm a aprticular piece of armor to get certain stats/effect you will be able to use a certain joinary to give the armour you are crafting that effect, this basically allows players to look like they want to and have the efects/stats they want

I know it's very early on but I hope they spend more time on animations and the dynamic environment. Right now it looks like a game that came out 10 years ago with a mod that enhances the graphics.

I'm glad they didn't try and lean into Soulslike combat. At Tennocon's devstream, Scott described it to have kind of "light Souls feel," maybe in death consequence or something, but in the most recent devstream, they described it more like an adventure looter. Which is fine. It's better to reclassify the game than commit to a genre they might not be able to make a product that lives up to the expectations of that genre.

I actually remember someone in Tennocon (Steve IIRC) saying they know what they did when they put "Soul-" in the title but they made it clear that it wasn't a Souls-like. They wanted Soulframe to have more grounded combat. But I'm pretty sure they already cleared it up during Tennocon that it's not a Souls-like. Maybe Scott was describing the design and fantasy element (instead of sci-fi like WF) and not the combat?

I hope they take cues from Witcher 3, notably how a bit of the community plays on _Death March_ difficulty to have engaging gameplay Shadow of Mordor's nemesis system a la Kuva Liches would also be good And just maybe everyone on the dev team should be had to play Morrowind and TTRPGs for added inspiration and direction

I definitely get them wanting to distance themselves form the Souls-like label, since this game is much more accessible difficulty wise, but it's also true that they take inspiration from so many other aspects from the Souls-like genre (and extremely competently in my opinion) that it's kind of silly to insist on denying the similarity.

One thing I will say tho is, the MOVEMENT Definitely got a big improvement from that terrible showcase they did couple months ago, like it looked so clunky and you can clearly see that there is no friction on your characters foot on the ground.. and it just look like a lot of sliding... BUT this definitely look like more refined compared to then, gameplay wise it looks alot smoother. I'm not in the wow factor like omg I NEED TO PLAY THIS but since I do enjoy souls type games, I will definitely give this a go once its out or if ever there is a public beta.

I was picked on an early beta and tried it for a few hours. It looked great, but I hit a ton of MAJOR bugs, the last of which completely stopped my progression after clearing a 'dungeon' and I was stuck inside. Closing the game did nothing. I didnt get the reward. For all I know my character is still sitting there. I hope its improved!

they NEED to make the enemyes harder , even when they are 10 levels higher then you they seem to die very very fast (abilities aside) , if it wants to have a more elden ringish feel to it then the difficulty and responsivness of the enemy have to be overall difficult , at least satisfying to defeat them , levels can matter but maybe higher level brings a wider arsenal and moveset to the enemy instead of just a bigger health pool , same with the player , in this game swordplay is key but when everyting just dies then it becomes a chore

@@F-aber no yea i understand that but the problem is that the gameplay system heavly relies on your interaction againt the enemies 1v1 for the most part , deciding to go that way closes the path for alot of tings and gives a certain feeling (souls like) even if more chill, there is the absolute need for some challenge to make it interesting at the very least and or vary the gameplay more to not make it fall in the above listed cathegory , expecially when you got to wait hours for new piaces of equipment , i really hope they start homing in these problems cause i want them to succeed

abilities is overpowered rn since they added more scaling with levels so it might change in the future, normally you would use the rolling ball to knockdown and utilize the lightning aoe finisher passive for Ode Tempest pact to handle crowd

It does need a lot of work on combat side. Combo, variety in the attacks and so on. It also need work on the mobility (climbing fences, sliding, anything that can make the game less rigid would be awesome. It remind me on early warframe. Incredible art direction but lackluster gameplay features. Hope it turns out like WF.

the combat is missing depth, by now the feeling of hitting stuff is good enough for now, but these simple 3 hit light attack combos that we spam just get boring after a while, there is no real chaning light heavy and kicks together. Warfarme for some reason has a melee combo system even though it could probably be fine without it, but soulframe doesnt? makes no sense to me

I was never concerned about art style or world design or quest design with DE. I do however hope to see engaging combat thats not a cake walk and boss fights that have good mechanics. Doesn't have to try and be a souls game. To be fair the Witcher 3 combat isn't super complex either, it's very basic. The story hard carried that game. If they can tell a crazy good story then they might get away with a less than stellar challenge however memorable, challenging combat has never been a blight on any game.

At the moment, it just makes me miss playing Elder Scrolls Online, because if I’m only going to have a couple attacks, I’d like more abilities

Honestly, the art direction is neat but the game itself just comes across as very boring to me. I also don't want to have to wait for 5 or 10 years after they release Soulframe for DE to make it "good." At some point I would like DE to move past this behavior of needing to community feedback in order to make a polished game. I am also very wary of anything Steve works on due to his past behavior of starting too many concepts & ideas but never finishing them before he tries to add something else.

It does look fun so cool. Art and vibe are on-point IMO. I just can't say much about the gameplay and combat until I actually get my hands on it myself. So far looks better than the stuff I saw from earlier builds this year though at least. WF is in good hands with Reb and Pablo right now so this is a good learning experience for Steve's team. Hoping they can learn and understand what makes a good action combat in this genre throughout Soulframe's development.

I just think the artistic direction just isnt there yet. Its like each things doesnt fit with one another and watching this I had no idea of what its trying to do. You got this bland medieval castle, enemies with slick modern armor, a kind of futuristic art deco structure, tents with intricate detailing and whimsical medieval UI. Like I'm just confused here lol.

The people native to this place are the ones that made the castles and those same people are very medieval, meanwhile the enemies have advanced technology and have invaded and are polluting and stripping this place of it's resources

@@pedrogomes693 I get that but in the context of everything being together it needs to look like they belong in the same universe. I shouldn't need an explanation to understand the visual language. The visual is supposed to do the explaining. Like just looking at the game I had no idea that the enemies were stripping and polluting because there's none of that visually. I thought they were just enemies with camps and some blue fire. And the native population its like they disappeared with everything they owned ? There's barely hints that people used to live there outside of a few barrels and a cart. Like was there no conflict ? They just left all the buildings without a fight ? Shouldn't there be traces of a fight and corpses of the natives ?

@@willbear2173 I mean, there are a lot of things pointing to the enemies polluting. There's these machines that pour this black oil-like substance into the water and there's smoke everywhere they are. And it's pre-alpha, meaning it's unfinished by a lot. You do see people when you clear the small home areas, they come back when enemies are gone. All of these are things that come with time. Feedback is important and we should let them know but it's also important to be realistic in that a pre-alpha won't have everything you want or expect in it.

For a game calling itself “SOULframe” it looks too easy. I would personally add more adds, more bosses randomly placed around the map, higher health pools and make everything hit harder in general to up the difficulty. Game looks nice but not enough to make me crazy about it.

I think this game really misses the mark at the moment. Especially with the movement, they seem like the operator from warframe which btw EVERYONE HATES USING. A lot of people really love the bullet jumping and freedom of expression the warframe movement gives, not only does soulframe at the moment lack this but all the movements seem a lot stiffer and less fluent overall

For me, it's boring. I know it is still in pre-alpha state but I wonder what is the goal of the game? What do you do in the game? Looter sword-er but everything is combat in slow-mo?

My issue is, ive been playing in warframe open worlds for so long, this is what it reminds me of, looks like and seems like it will feel like.....and i cant STAND playing there. Since its free to play, ill play it but eh...

honestly doenst feel like duviri to me at all, dont get me wrong the combat still has some way to go, but the clunky as F combat from duviri this is not

I'm reading these comments there's people hoping it's a proper souls-genre game, so harder, precise combat there's people hoping it's a horde game, like wf and there's people who see it's quality, but are uninspired i kinda feel that last one... it's beautiful, but there's a "cool" thing missing where's the "oh shit, i want to do that" in wf the "cool" is cool looking wf, and the power fantasy of doing some crazy ability and squads of enemies go flying like the warframe trailer, where it introduces mag/excal/volt ... that gets ur blood pumping, it's cool... it's "i want to do/be that!" this is just missing a "cool" or "awesome" or "sick!"... something "oh shit, I wanna do that" something badass... shooting colors out of a bionic arm isn't doing it

Very DE art design (in a good way). Beautiful world and atmosphere, unique architecture, and equally unique costume design. Very DE gameplay design (in a bad way). Seems like they tried to move away from Warframe's spammy melee by slowing the tempo, but the slow tempo only made their stiff and floaty combat animation quirks even more pronounced. They've been doing this melee thing for 10 years, and never seemed to get the importance of hitstops and impactful hit SFX.

I was always confused as to what Soulframe was and why it wasn't part of the Duviri mode. And I STILL dont see wtf the point of seperating these two identical things is lol

Not a fan DE. Too much reliance on throwing weapons. I dont see anything here, even foundation wise, that other games don't offer.
