To defend his comment based on how I interpreted - might be focused on the type of music he’s seeing other black djs play (rap) with less than positive messages (compared to me playing no rap) and then seeing other djs of all races following suit. He could have added more context, but you have to read between the lines. Like you said music is a soul thing, but it would be ignorant to pretend that our society views it that way.
