I met Todd in 2008 on a flight from LAX to MSP, on his way to Iowa to do a talk show. Poor guy, we were in economy…..and he had the middle seat. At first, I had no idea who he was, until we started talking and he said he was an actor, mostly know for Different Strokes. OMG, I then realized who he was….lol. He was a real nice guy and we chatted most of the flight. However, he was in a lot of pain due to a hernia he had gotten during the Hulk Hogan Celebrity Challenge, where Todd was the 9 person eliminated, and losing to Dennis Rodman. I asked if they had given him any pain killers…..and he looked at me and said “Really Dude”? I let out an “Oh Sh-t”…..sorry about that”. I had forgotten Todd had/has an addiction problem and couldn’t take anything considered a narcotic. I must have had a real stupid look on my face, because he started laughing and said “It’s all good”. Yep, what a pleasure it was to spend a little time with him. It was definitely a memorable experience.

As a retired nurse I can tell you for a surety that the patients I dealt with would tell me God was the reason they were clean from drugs 99% of the time and only 1% would say that they did it on their own. Spiritual health can affect other aspects of health, meaning physical, mental, and social health increasing a will to live a better life. It’s being incorporated into health care. I’m glad to see he survived because countless did not!

Grace - thank you, without an intervention of God in an addicts life it is a horrible experience. Addiction is the only disease that kills everything that you have ever loved before slowly killing the addict. One of the facilities where I worked for years had a saying ; Out the gate by 8 , In the spoon by noon . We had addicts O.D. in the parking lot, it is a horrible life. One of my pastors said this ; if you could see the end result of that first line , shot , snook or smoke of drugs- would it be so tempting. The enemy never shows you selling your body , abandoning your children or robbing families and friends just for a HIGH. Jesus Christ is the way , the truth and the life ! If you want real peace, love in your life it’s only found in Jesus Christ !

@GarlandBrooks Жыл бұрын
Nobody needs "another Denzel." People need to live their own truths, their own reality, and overcome their own struggles. Being a copycat never works. He's put the work in to reconnect to himself. He is happy and enjoying life authentically. Well worth the effort for any of us no matter the nature of our struggles. It's life. It's no cakewalk. Some of us rise. Others fall.

The footage at the beginning of this vid is from the episode where Willis' alcoholic friend Jeremy died from a DWI. This was explained by Willis at the end when he came home with a bandaged forehead. The two were leaving a bar, and Jeremy crashed into a big truck after running a red light, which left him in a coma. Willis asked Mr. Drummond if there's anything they can to do help Jerry, and that he's really a good guy who's kinda lost and has nobody that cares about him. As soon as Drummond gladly accepted, the phone rang. It was the hospital calling for Willis. You couldn't hear the other end of the line, but after he asked how Jeremy's doing, his facial expressions said enough. Everything from the "listening" face to the "oh no" as he started crying, was some top-notch acting from Todd Bridges. Many blessings to him, and R.I.P. to the rest of the original cast -- Gary Coleman, Conrad Bain, Dana Plato, and Charlotte Rae. I am including Jeremy as well, because you could really feel the realism in this episode.

It’s hard to listen to people who were well off try to explain what they went through being the reason for their demise. Especially when you’ve been through it and worst. I just hope he’s experienced enough pain that he stays clean and returns to maturing in a healthy spiritual manner. Escaping life is what he chose using drugs. Life isn’t meant to be escaped, but lived. “Welcome back” Mr. Bridges. I grew up being entertained by you. I’m so glad you made it through hell. Many don’t. Stay! “Thank You!” for sharing ❤️🖤💚

Not only that, but in Todd's earlier young life, he was abused, meaning he was passed around to high profile predators in hollywood. Todd is still dealing with those demons and issues in his life. He's been through so much. Todd said years ago in an interview that while he was in the show different strokes, he was being abused by someone that Todd called Ronald. Todd said this guy Ronald abused him 4 times on different occasions. This Ronald guy preformed oral s*x on Todd. When I watch Todd talk I can see the anger in him and it's understandable. I went through and honestly, am still going through ( but managing it) the substance abuse issues Todd had/ has for the the same reasons; severe Childhood abuse and neglect. Mine was from my mother, . Born in 1966, I was the first in my mothers large Family of 9 to be born out of wed lock. Although, it is far too common now, almost 90 percent of black children now are; I believe that was the source of her resentment, hostility and embarrassment which resulted in my harsh childhood. I think that his addiction , as is mine, is still there. I am managing mine by putting barriers in place to keep me from going too far. Todd has changed addictions, he has traded a "chemical" addiction with drugs in for the "psychological" addiction of religion. Both are merely distortions of your reality, which is does not change the physical or tangible things, it changes the perception. both are methods of coping and comprehending of the pain and turmoil,......that it, the real problem / source of the pain still exists.
@GarlandBrooks Жыл бұрын
There is a distinction between "religion" and a connection to a power higher than you. As you continue to work through remember the breath you breathe is not promised nor is tomorrow. Be the best you can be for yourself and look for something positive you can encourage in others. Works wonder for "addictions" and recovery.
