I love the bit from 04:55 where he basically drills the band and they all stop at 05:25, right on cue. Imagine having a band like that! Five hundred years ago he would have been a pirate captain with the most disciplined crew on the seven seas.

They had no choice...He would fine them $5 or $10 dollars for every mistake. A fair amount of money in the early '70's.

We used to run this into the ground when I was stationed in Germany. James Brown was one stone cold soul brother, he captured the body and soul of Black folks and released it through unique music. There's many smoking cuts on this album.

Ever hear the Brooklyn old-timers speak about not needing a portable radio to hear the entire Dodgers game-just walk down the street and you won't miss a pitch? Well, in much of Louisville during my entire youth, the same thing happened with any JB cut! The funk just rolled out of the car and home radios...Soul/R&B stations in the '50s through the early '90s were FAR superior to today's stations -hell, you can't even get a weather alert or news bulletin on many of them let alone any good music-they're "talkin' loud and sayin' nothin'!" .
