Hi Star, I loved your all your glaze combinations! Sorry about the crawling, I hate when that happens. Maybe the glaze was too thick. I love blues and greens and both mugs turned out beautifully. Thank you for sharing!❤

Thanks Ana, yes I might have put the cream on too thick. It’s never done that for me in the past but this was also a clay I’ve never used it with

Well I got it in person at the Laguna clay store in Los Angeles but you should be able to google Mr. Marks wax and Wear Repair? I think I got the wax at Sheffield Pottery? but it’s been so long since I’ve had to buy any!

Thank you!💕It does work well for creating a little running over other glazes. I’ve never had it crawl that way so I might use it up in that way but yeah..disappointing

The batter bowl is GORGEOUS!!! hoping you can get it off the cookies! ;-) and I do love the tigers eye/seaspray/cream swirl bowl! I think this was a really good kiln opening, even with what disappointed you...I personally liked pretty much all of them.

Hi Star! I love your work. Sorry about the crawling! My initial thought was maybe too thick of an application? Especially since you said the glaze had sat for a while. Did you check the specific gravity? Anyway, your combos are beautiful. Your superfan will love his mugs!

Hi Pat, yeah I think too thick as well..I’ve never had this prob w Clayscapes cream but I’ve also never used it on this clay! Going to add something else and refire, fingers crossed!

At footage 19:21 I love the batter bowl but wasn’t sure what you meant when you said there was a “shift in the kiln.” I have recently bought my first new kiln and not looking forward to glaze sticking problems and trying to learn from you here.
@SoulHavenPottery-gt2gf9 ай бұрын
Hi! So the clay shrinks some in the bisque and then shrinks more in the glaze fire and I had put the bottom of my bowl perfectly in that broken ring but as it shrank it “shifted”…or moved off the cookie and one side fell off and that’s where it stuck! When new don’t go rogue and do tricky balancing with broken cookies, LOL. Just keep it simple, use good stilts or cookies and you will be fine👍🏻💗have fun!!! Ask questions whenever, happy to explain or help .

I wonder if you fire your lamp shade small end on the shelf instead of large end. I think if you had any imperfections on the small end your lamp hardware might cover

How did you do the geometric effect on the plate at 26:16?
@SoulHavenPottery-gt2gf3 ай бұрын
Hi, with a stencil 😊
@SoulHavenPottery-gt2gf3 ай бұрын
It’s a trivet so it’s totally flat. A plate might be more tricky, you could do it while the clay is still a flat slab and then gently drape it over a plate mold to shape it but don’t press too hard or you get rid of the impression/design
@walkerpottery9296-Natalie10 ай бұрын
One other idea about the CScapes Cream….if the clay body was still wet from the exterior glazes, the cream might not have been able to grab on to the clay completely before it dried. Just a thought? 💜
@SoulHavenPottery-gt2gf10 ай бұрын
Well..it was the only thing I put on the inside. I think it’s more that it was too thick. I hadn’t used it in a while! I refired after adding some Amaco Iron yellow and it smoothed out!
@micheledickey406610 ай бұрын
Wow! What an amazing kiln load. So sorry about the problems you had. The doctors second mug is amazing. Do you have the combo for that one? And the mandala!!! My gosh!! Amazing. The lamp is soo beautiful!!! The reason you’re not getting a lampshade that doesn’t crack etc is that the base is uneven so when you set that on the kiln shelf it is contracting differently where the parts that are touching the kiln shelf from the areas that aren’t touching the shelf. I know I love the look of the uneven edge but I’m afraid that is the problem. For the ones that had crawling do you wipe down your pieces before glazing to get any dust off? Also be really careful using the stilts upside down. A lot of times the metal pins will get too hot and bend. It will make your pot tip over. You can buy the stilts without the pins in them. There are also molds you can use to make your own and you don’t have to put the pins in them. Maybe try and snip the pins off with some good wire cutters.
@SoulHavenPottery-gt2gf10 ай бұрын
Thanks Michele! Yes! I’ve seen those stilt molds…thought about getting some! The combo for that mug isIndigo float x3-4 in and out (top half out) Ancient Jasper x2 over IF. indigo flt over top of AJ again and iron yellow over that and tiny bit of lt flux . That was copied from my pottery notes app I would send a photo of before if I could. This is a runner! It could do without the indigo float again over the AJ.

Oh! And the lamp shade wasn’t cracked!! Yay! It was something I was seeing through the glaze from the inside👍🏻

And I do also wipe then wax…i could have forgotten those but I’ve been doing it that way for so long I think it was problem was that Cream glaze was too thick for sure on the ones that crawled. Good idea to cut off the pins!
@micheledickey406610 ай бұрын
@@SoulHavenPottery-gt2gf So glad I could help. I hope snipping off the tips doesn’t break the stilt. You can of course make your own “stilts”.
@thomasschwarz19738 ай бұрын
thank you! i would like to try plain white glaze with minimal lines, like commercial tableware, also glazed on the bottom. any links for how to do that?
@SoulHavenPottery-gt2gf8 ай бұрын
Glazing on the bottom is tough unless you use an underglaze that won’t stick to the shelf and it will be matte usually. It’s hard to get plates / bowls to fire without warping unless they are flat on the shelf so glazing the bottoms of pieces like that is usually not something I do but good luck.
