Strange, this is one of the few 40k from the whole franchise (including TT and BL) which can actually be considered a good ending, mostly because it's just not that Subbs not only managed to wipe out all other factions but after the war but the overal status of Kaurava improved both for their military and population.

I don't know why it can't still be canon... I always do Kaurava II last, and by that time the Orks have usually overrun most of the planet and beaten back the Space Marines and the Tau to their strongholds. Of course, all that ends abruptly when Vance Stubbs lands and knocks out the ork stronghold (killy spot and all) within two turns. Gorgutz... faced with the Stubbs' textbook deployment of artillery and heavy armor (and the incompetence of the local orkz)... ran away. :D

You know theres a lot of inferences made from dialogue in DoW III talking about Gorgutz stomping the Space Marines.. to come to the conclusion that Gorgutz won overall. Gorgutz proved that he's cunning enough to have his tunnels dug and ready, and brutal enough to win battles, and with the general inexperience of Commander Boreale, combined with the complete and utter chaos of eight armies duking it out on four planets.. My speculation, given previous reading, is that Gorgutz stomped the Space Marines and took control of his part of the System, but was eventually pushed out by the Imperial Guard.

Still canon to me, DOW3 just says Gorgutz landed on Kaurava and found "sum big planz" and evacuated off again. So it's entirely possible Gorgutz just discovered sumfing interestin', killed Boreale, but then got his shit kicked in and blasted off leaving VANCE STUBBS to clean up and make his own little empire. Then Gorgutz placated his Waaagh by saying "oi boyz, I didn' run datz not orky but I'se found da planz for BIGGER fight!" which is kinda true

@TheVoiceOfReason93 Keep in mind Relic haven't officially stated who canonically won Kaurava. They implied in some Dawn of War 2 dialogue that the Blood Ravens defeat is canon, but nothing else. Most fans think the Imperial Guard won, so that's what's most commonly accepted, but who knows? Personally, I think they should come out and say the Guard won, no one else could've won. Stubbs was the only commander who knew what he was doing. If they say anyone else won, much rage and derp will be had.

And if 225nd regiment and Stubbs can defeat Space marines than that means it is very likely they can take on and win every other faction in Kaurava.

unfortunately Dawn of War 3 confirmed that this is not the canon ending, Gorgutz and his orks actually won, which brings up several canon conflicts such as how wargear from the Kaurava campaign appeared in Dawn of War 2. There is little chance the Space Marines could have recovered wargear from a Ork held system. Also Boreale had 5 companies, but Dawn of War 2 said only 3 of them were lost because the Imperial Guard allowed survivors to leave the system, but if Gorgutz won then the Blood Ravens would have lost all 5. If the Blood Ravens were at half strength they would have been doomed by the tyranid hive fleet and the following civil war with corruption in the chapter. It also does not explain how Cyrus survived, it is doubtful he trained initiates and sent them off to Kaurava, Cyrus trains his students in the field, and from what he said it is heavily implied Cyrus was present in Kaurava.

How does that imply all 5 companies were destroyed if the Orks win. Most of the space marines (implying at least 3 or 4 companies) were reserved in space, used for 'steel rain!!!!' That means either some of the Astartes (equivalent to 2 companies) didn't make the drop before the Orks overran the castellum incorruptus, or/and that a number of squads managed to extract via Thunderhawk before being overrun. And Cyrus mentioned during DOW2 that he wasn't able to take part in the Kronus campaign because he was training scouts for the Kaurava campaign, implying he may already have been present on the world watching imperial guard/Ork operations. He may also have been training them while aiding one of the companies not taking part in the Kronus Campaign, said company conducting minor operations elsewhere, Caldaris or wherever perhaps. Present on Kronus were the 1st, 2nd and 4th companies, the 4th being Davian Thule's and containing Tarkus, Avatus and Apothecary Gordian. We know at least that present on Kaurava were the 5th, 9th, the 9th being Boreal's company. Why on earth a 9th company captain would be given command of 5 companies is retarded, but that's relic for you.

My opinion on the mater is this: It is canon that Gorgutz won, and then shortly after shrugged and fucked off. My opinion is that the IG won againts the Blood Ravens, allowing Cyrus to have survived. Gorgutz managed to take over the Kaurava system, only to get bored and wander off with most of the Orks. That allowed the remnants under Stubbs to retake all of Kaurava. Thats the ONLY way this bullshit from DoW3 (a terrible game) makes sense, if you pull a Morrowind-esque 'All the endings of Daggerfall are canon (including the one where Numindium Mario-stomps Tamriel), but in a limited sense. So, in my opinion, this ending is Canon... But it just took longer than was thought for Stubbs to win against the Orks that were left behind. This work for you guys?

If you played dawn of war 2 and read every description of the item history you loot, then you'll know that the kaurava system was conquered by the imperium but not the blood ravens. Avitus said it was a blight in the chapters history so i imagine they lost from the imperial guard. Another fact that makes me sure about this is the first mission on chaos rising cyrus said to avitus hate them if you will but do not underastimate them, mentioning the traitor guardsmen of house vandis
