I always thought "VTEC kicking in" was the loudest engine note change in these I4 cars, but no the 2ZZ absolutely SCREAMS when it passes 6000 RPM.

Dunno if it's just me but lift seems screams louder (more aggressive) when it hits. "i-vtec" not just regular vtec (there's a huge difference between the two), sounds pretty nice too. Lift kicks in at 6500 rpm and i-vtec kicks in at 6000 rpm. Both are amazing cars/engines and great on gas. Go Japan imports!

No one knows how quick an xrs is until they race one in their overrated hondas. I love owning an XRS because cops never look at it and I can still smoke most cars with 15-20 more horsepower.

That’d either be when he floors it or just the normal VVT working, probably the VVT. I’ve noticed in my XRS that it picks up at 3k, again at 4k, somewhere much less noticeably at about 5k and then lift hits at 6700

That was just him getting back into high lift after the shift dropped his revs too low and caused him to drop out of the VVTL rpm range

There's no point comparing the VTEC vs VVTL-I vs Neo- VVL . They MUST sound the same . The differences in these videos were engine. The K20 will def sound different vs the 2ZZ-GE I'll say that the vtec popping on B series will be more close to what the 2ZZ pops and the SR20 Neo VVL from the Pulsar.

@mark, beautifully laid out. The B series kicks more brutal than the K series, and the Neo VVL motors are violent. They all sound lovely. Vtec is still king

@DrNoAudio he means that because VVTL-i, VTEC and “Neo VVL” (VVEL) are mechanically the same the sound difference therefore MUST come from differences in other parts of the engine. In this case (2ZZ vs. K20) the 2ZZ sounds more aggressive because it has much more aggressive cams, making it sound much more pronounced.

Even when you lower the lift by tuning the ECU it hits harder, the high-cam in the 2ZZ is absolutely massive. More duration than a stock LS, Hellcat or Coyote and enough lift to make the car float 😂

@@reneeharewood5053 that statement screams i dont know wtf im talking about. There is absolutely variable valve timing in the Si. IVTEC takes vvt and combines it with valve lift control. Intelligent variable valve timing and lift electronic control is what IVTEC stands for, VVT is LITERALLY part of the acronym and you say the 8th gen Si does not have vvt 😂 go back to your google education.

That's I-vtec not Vtec ! The original vtech sounds louder than the ivtec fyi ! Having own all 3 vtec, ivtec and lift sound wise I take the toyota lift all day !!! Best sounding 4 banger of all time with only an exhaust.

Toyota had to turn to Yamaha to design this engine with the 1ZZ block. Toyamaha Corolla XRS. lol God knows the standard 1ZZ 1.8 in the Corolla is gutless.

I love VVTLI how ever when Toyota came out with the celica gt-s to compete with gsr last gen the celica got killed VVTLI gts 175hp gsr 185 that 10 hp in 2600 pound cars is a big diff love love love the gts and Xrs but gsr and type R all day but don't forget about the Nissan neo vvt in the Sentra

crazy how people are fanatics about different name for the same technology. Just call it DOHC. Just an hydrolic device that changes the camshaft's actuation time at a given rpm, to create some overlap in the intake/exhaust valves. It's inside most japanese cars theses days, because it allows for very good power / effiency compromises, even corolla CE has it...

Actually, you're mistaken. DOHCs are not necessarily variable valve timing, nor are DOHCs necessary for variable valve timing. VTEC and VVTL-i both are DOHC and variable valve timing (VVT) - but that's not all. Both have a second, completely different set of high-rpm cam lobes on the cam shafts that have greater lift and duration than the low-rpm cam lobes. This allows the engine power output to increase at high RPMs where normal engines (even those with VVT) can't, while maintaining reasonable low-rpm torque and fuel economy. So there is in fact a whole lot more to it, and there are merits to doing so both how Honda does it and how Yamaha did it for Toyota.

Alvaro Lopez dohc have nothing to do with variable timing. you are wrong. Double Over Head Cam is dohc. v tec is variable timing electronic control. vvti is variable valve timing inteligent, so vvti is similar in concept with v tec. but dohc have nothing to do with timing. just 2 cam in the head,

@@reneeharewood5053ord’s Zetec and Honda’s VTEC are in literally no way related. VTEC is a variable valve timing and lift system that was introduced in ‘89. Zetec was just a name Ford came up with, so that they wouldn’t get sued by Fiat for using the name “Zeta”. The first one was produced in ‘91. So, you’re wrong either way.
