[Sound Comparison] Brahms Lullaby in 12 Type of Gecko Kalimba (Updated / Completed Comparison)

Hi! I've decided to update Gecko's Kalimba last sound comparison videos into one completed videos, including all the types, of course to make you easier to compare!
To help you decide what's to buy, you probably would consider :
1. Box Type or Plate Type : Box type have a louder sound and you can play wah-wah effect on them, very suitable if you're playing and recording mostly outdoor. However the high tines resonances is weaker than plate type. Plate type have a smaller sound but it would not be any problem for playing and recording indoor, also the high tines produce more great resonance than box type.
2. Tone : I put them in order from the lowest G tone, B tone and the last C tone. Any beginner or advance are free to choose any tone, it wouldn't affect the way of playing (as you can see in the video), the tone of the Kalimba only affect low or high the sound will be, G is the lowest, C is the highest. You may change the tone, however I don't recommend to change the tone into the higher one (for example B tone to C tone) as there is a possibility for having a shorter sustain in the high tines.
3. Timbre : it's hard to describing the timbre of each wood in words, the best way is to rely on your ears! Listen and choose your favorite timbre.
4. Sustain Level : I've check the sustain level by Sustain Analyzer app. I will put 2 times = longest tines/shortest tines. Here is the list sorted from the high to low sustain :

5. Sometimes wood's grain will help you consider! In my preferences, Rosewood and Maple Curly get a beautiful grain.

Sound the same imho, CAP version has wider tines, could be a consideration for they who has a bigger thumb!

You have absolutely no idea how helpful this was. Whatever mic you were using to record was great and it articulated all of the subtle differences I was looking for. Had a notepad up and took notes throughout the video and will probably watch it again in case I missed anything. Very soothing playing and the transitions were fluid, thank you for no hard stops

6:54 the Koa Acacia is just leagues above the others imo. The sustain, the sublte vibrato, gorgeous. Makes the whole instrument sound larger than it is.

This is a great video education for kalimba beginners/amateurs. Thanks! I've been thinking of buying Gecko brand (Box and plate)...I think this brand has quality resonating sound. Although Lingting Brand has been my favorite over Hokema, Arcanum and Aklot Bear (Box type). I'm not a professional musician but I enjoy playing this instrument and purchasing good ones for my collection.

Gecko mostly doesn't have it, the only type that got engraved note is k17sd :)

There's just something special about the k17a's tines (all the LingTing models). They're a little thinner and more responsive, resulting in a lusciously even sound across the entire tine palate, as well as less fatigue.
