No matter how many tutorials I watch I still can't seem to wrap my head around what makes a growl bass (let alone a riddim bass). Something I've been trying to understand since I was 11 when I picked up dubstep. I've now realized music theory is more important than sounds (as I've become sort of a composer), but this still fascinates me. That's what I love about dubstep, the sounds are just inconceivable.
@lumos_62904 жыл бұрын
Yeah I agree. For someone who is new to dubstep, it can seem like they all sound equally cool and novel. After a while though you start to develop a sense
@mcgritty88429 ай бұрын
If you don’t get how to make growls, you’re watching the wrong tutorials or not picking up enough info. Do you reallt think in dubstep that music theory is more important than making good sounds? I think all the producers would very much disagree since many say they don’t really know music theory
@DisturbedVette9 ай бұрын
@@mcgritty8842 nah I know how to make (shitty) growls even just using massive but my music taste and ability has evolved since then. I’ve long switched to making post hardcore punk as it’s the ultimate music genre that solos everything musically (half joking). Anyway I do believe music theory is important to know regardless of what genre you’re in (just look at Virtual Riot), but what’s even MORE important is song writing skills.

Thank you for de-mystifying this. Its honestly the first Serum video that I can follow along. Every other serum tutorial is just 30 min long with some much unnecessary technical explanations and music theory monologues, or 5 min or less that only teach you one tiny aspect of the plugin. This video strikes the perfect balance.

Why the double OTTs? I see this kind of multiple instances of compression in all kinds of tutorials, what's the logic behind it?
@Letsynthesize5 жыл бұрын
Sometimes one instance simply just not make the job
@inforthekill19845 жыл бұрын
heavy compression is part of the characteristics of dubstep sounds
@lafudge29295 жыл бұрын
It's compression pre, and post effects. You can see he has a filter on after the first instance of OTT in serum. Plus he puts a phaser on in post, which as you know, takes out ample amounts of frequency content. Layering distortion, and compression is always a good idea if you're doing a lot of filtering that takes out/boosts certain frequencies. This technique is used a lot in Neuro and growl bass sound design.
