Just ordered this using your affiliate link. After seeing your video, it seems like this is a perfect device for me. Love the form factor, small size, and the look of the menus, and I am very frequently recording soundboard feeds and the line/mic switch is such a fantastic addition. As well, often doing mobile VO recordings in different locations where I have to bring a mic and a small recording setup, and this seems ideal for that. It is surprising how many small recorders cannot record a proper mono file. It’s either a stereo file with one track dead, a dual mono file, or a multitrack mode that will give a mono file from the selected input, but with a folder structure that makes it annoying to extract files when recording many different takes of different lines. This seems like a well designed problem solver for all those specific use cases.

Interesting but so much wasn't mentioned. For instance the export options, the trashcan facility, the fixed level output at specified level, etc. I would suggest to potential purchasers that reading the online manual will tell you everything about the device in detail, but of course it won't tell you what it sounds like, which you can hear here. As for noise, Mr Judd seemed happy with the noise level of the H4essential when used with a decent mic. The H1 XLR has slightly better quoted noise performance, so as he says, it should be no disaster in other than the most demanding scenarios. No, it is not the best at any price but it is probably best at this price point.

How is the size and weight? Would it be too unwieldy to use a Fethead, or similar connector, and a handheld dynamic to use as aTascam Dr-10X alternative?

Does the two channel record multitrack?

@@bigbangngtv not sure what is confusing there, stereo is 'multitrack' since it has one track per mic/input. Two is 'multitrack' in that it is not mono.

If you connect separate sources to the two xlr combo jacks, you can record them as a single stereo file, or as two mono files.

So this has line level into the c70 line level but the new tascam box recorder doesn’t ?

They both have line level output, just not balanced output.
