Honestly, this DW snare drum is the only one worth buying! Nowadays, they’re so ‘generic’ and virtually all of them sound so similar. A lot of it has to do with similar construction in each drum, thus the uniqueness of this particular one! Check out John Good’s solid shell construction video and you’ll find out what separates this drum from every other solid shell drum made. There are no seams. They truly are, ‘solid.’ Truth be it told, though that this drum sounds ‘compressed’, compared with other ‘solid’ shell snare drums. There are also three thicknesses offered. A 3/8”, a 1/2” and a 3/4”. The thicker you get, the more compressed the sound becomes, the louder it is and less dynamic. Of course, the thinner, the more dynamic and more overtones. Most solid shell snare drums are between 1/4” and 3/8”. Brady, solid and stave shell snare drums are unique sounding for sure but due to the thickness(1/2”+), these drums have a nice, solid hit but lack dynamics and as a result, can be limited to use. Which brings me to my point: This DW drum is nice but not as a main snare drum! I traded it and sometimes miss it because it sounds good in certain applications. I have 4 snare drums at this point. Two solid shell, made by Bibke and Cooley, an Australian, 16 ply, very dense wood snare drum that has a surprising amount of body and dynamics(Most likely due to the ply construction) and a Dunnett, 2N, aluminum snare drum. They all cover a lot of ground but I miss a maple snare drum because maple sounds like no other snare drum. The trouble I’m having is which maker and what type of construction. It is going to be between this drum and a Noble and Cooley, SS maple snare, 5x14. Just work hard and save like I did but try a few before you buy because these drums are costly and they don’t always return you a decent yield on the second-hand market. Choose wisely! I threw a lot of dough out the window!🙁

This YT account is a drum store, not an individual. The fact is, you don't know enough about this situation to make those comments. Troll.
