I closed my eyes and put this on with headphones, and then the time slipped right by and I was immersed in that last chord. It's so interesting to hear the harmonies of the different pitches "beating" together in emergent rhythms. Very striking to hear harmonic composition in terms of the rhythms that emerge from them. Thank you for the beautiful, groundbreaking music!

I find at this point it's not particularly difficult to dissociate from "expected" frequencies and embrace all the microtonal elements at play here. It's extremely interesting and calming.

There are a few software plug-ins out and about that mimic modular synthesis. I’d love to here your microtonal scale used in combination with simple wave forms...like a pulse waveform or triangle/sine waveform. It’s nice to see what was only theory back in the 90’s be realized and applied and even consumable by the average studio musician today. Your work seems to be the most cohesive out there. Thanks for your effort and example. It gives the rest of us a way to map out our ideas. At least, that’s been the case for me.

I just learned that Lumatone came out with a 280-key version with 5 more keys than the initial version so that each rightward-angled column has 8 keys; I then realized this must be the latest version you're playing in this video, which explains why you used 56 EDO here instead of 55! :)

I only just realised for some reason how this type of layout can be really good for EDOs with a superpythagorean fifth, since you can force the diatonic scale to behave, whereas playing a major or minor scale on a Bosanquet layout comes out a bit wonky because of the three different step sizes that are needed then. It might even be nice for something as small as 22edo because of this. I'm curious if you're tuning each diatonic scale to a just major scale approximation or just minor scale approximation or still Pythagorean? Also might be fun to try playing around with a Wicki-Hayden analogue of this at some point, though that'd make non-diatonic intervals a bit harder to reach, so I might have to rearrange the colours to make sure that the intervals I want the most access to aren't too far.

Great ideas! With a high-resolution 56 edo pitch collection, just-intoned scales can have many polychromatic variations for each diatonic mode. And intervallic/harmony intonation flexibility is increased. With the Lumatone, it seems easier and very intuitive to 'retire' accidentals from the notation system, and let pitch-colors indicate all micropitch gradations (A-G). We'll see if this approach creates other limitations.

This is more of an exploration of micro-intervals (pitch-colors), interacting to create unique qualities of audible shape and motion. Chorus seems to be a more global effect - affecting all intervals in the same way.
