In olden days, we studied that Rishis and sages did tapas taking one single mantra for hundreds of years and then got the blessings of goddess mother . Moreover while doing the tapas , we should not keep our problems in mind and we should fix any time for the response from the universal energy.Having said this , there are may many paths and many many mantras and many many rituals . All are equally powerful and the real power can be experienced only when we do one pointed Upasana without jumping from one mantra to another mantra and this rule is applicable only when we are doing the prayer with a desire . If we don't have desire then reciting a variety of mantras can produce different kind of joy that we are hailing mother in many many ways and thereby understanding her Tatva in all possible angles. i hope this helps you and many people who have similar kind of doubts -Guruji
