I think it’s beautiful. Takes me back to my HS years. Mine was a SOUNDESIGN 5954 though. Wish I still had it.

Yes I like it. Old electronics just to tinker with is fun. Forget brand name snobbery! I used to love to scan through the AM dial at night. It can still be fun as far as I'm concerned so let's see it.

It was not the best back in the days but now it is probably better than most of the new stuff!

I bought one in 1986(?), still working beautifully all these years later. Might have been a cheapie, but takes a licking and keeps on ticking LOL Sound Design allow not elite is a great product.

I remember soundesign as really bottom of the barrel stuff. A unit like that would come with "tower" speakers that were essentially a big box with one small 3 or 4 inch speaker in the whole enclosure.

My apologies for getting here so late. The two Phono Inputs are for different types of cartridges - The CER PHN AUX is for turntables with ceramic cartridges (like the cheap stuff) - ceramic carts have a line level signal that is much higher in power and closer to a standard component line level than a magnetic cartridge (either moving coil or moving magnet) - which have much lower TT output voltages and require a phono pre-amp to bring the signal up to line level. The input on the MAG PHN probably has a pre-amp in line. I like these things. Who really cares what others think? I have some killer equipment, but I have a soft spot for Technics, Realistic, and MCS.

thanks for your input.....Get it? And yes, I like the "off Brand" gear, it is fun to revisit all these years later. Cheers

30 watts per channel divide the power consumption by 4 and you get the wattage

I'll bet that tape deck is pretty decent. Noise reduction. Not Dolby noise reduction

On the web it says 120 watt. Not per channel.

Yes I saw that post.. Haha, I am thinking more like 10- 15 wpc
@RickMahoney2013
@RickMahoney2013 4 жыл бұрын
@@breakerbroke23 I was thinking along the same lines no more than 25 watts per channel. I had a Radio Shack STA-84 that was 25 WPC and speakers that I bought in a bundle back in the early 70's I still have the receipt.

Not vintage. Junk. About 7 or 8 watts per channel RMS. OK for a garage for background music with small bookshelf speakers. My parents had one when I was in high school. Came with a tape deck, a turntable on top, and two small speakers made of 1/4 inch particle board, and a single 4" full range driver.

But I would play around with it for fun. Funny, I was with my wife at the local Salvation Army thrift store, and saw a similar Yorx brand receiver/turntable combo with a tape deck and speakers for $8.99, and was half tempted to buy it, but was discouraged by my wife, who asked, "Don't you have enough of that crap around the house?"

This was just last week. We were looking for bargain baby furniture for our daughter's new baby, and my wife said I was the only baby we were shopping for. She reminded me of the multiple stereos, speakers, etc. Collecting dust in my garage and basement. Yes, she's right. I definitely have a problem. LOL!

You're supposed to show how many watts per channel output on the amp/receiver. Usually 60 was the low standard.

I'll have you know that's that is worth a hell lot more than 10 bucks that receivers worth about $125 to 150 bucks by itself but the tape deck is worth more it's worth about $150 to $200 and some sound design is not around anymore the price will only go up it was made by Magnavox

These stereos are technically vintage, but man oh man are they the worst. I remember the plastic feeling of these and the total lack of range. Glad you made the video though. Check out my vid on vintage jewelry. kzbin.info/www/bejne/ipWrdYeno7pnncU
