+Oloan Pranala Such terrible news. Oddly, I had been listening to some of my favorite songs on "Superunknown" ("Fell on Black Days", "The Day I Tried To Live", and, of course, "Black Hole Sun") when I was in the shower the morning I heard he had died, before hearing the news. He will definitely be missed. It's not an exaggeration to say he was one of the greatest rock singers of all time. You could pick his voice out of a crowd of a million singers. He could take his voice in so many different directions and styles, sometimes in the same song. He was a legend, and we will never see another one like him again.

The "Hang my head and drown my fear until you all just disappear" line gets me every time. A lot of Soundgarden songs, you can sing along but there's no way you can't tell Cornell was fighting some shit by some of the lyrics. Especially the nearly the entirety of Superunknown. Imagine being a song writer, writing some dark stuff during a dark time, then maybe getting over it but having to go back to that place again and again doing live shows because the track was so popular.

There will NEVER be another Chris Cornell. I don't follow rock music as much as I did before so maybe I'm wrong on this, but it seems to me like the era of iconic frontmen has come and gone. The top lead singers nowadays don't seem to have that necessary combination of incredible singing, an original/unique-sounding voice, and the swagger to match the vocals. Chris had all three in spades. RIP Chris Cornell. You will be sorely missed, and your music will live on forever.

Chris L. Can’t stand a lot of modern rock, a lot of it’s just a bunch of filters out over voices so that it sounds like utter crap, or it’s guitar melodies that are super soft and quiet and don’t even sound good.

I remember listening to my little stick radio on my lunch break working in the cafeteria when I was in Jr. high and the station (X107.5) played "Spoon Man", and "Jesus Christ Pose" on their "Liquid Lunch" music block. I had the opening shuffle to Spoon Man stuck in my head the rest of the day, I never gave it too much thought...I never changed the station when Sound Garden came up on the playlist. I've never heard a tune they did I didn't like. Truthfully some an acquired taste; not bad just a little too left-field to fall right into. In high school, Audioslave debuted with their self-titled album; I heard "Cocheise" (misspelled get off my tip...I've never seen The Warriors)...and I remember the impact that had on me too; Something so mesmerising. I stopped dead in front of my brother's sound system and just sat down and stared a hole through the stereo until the song was over like the RCA dog or something. Chris had an unreal set of pipes, and a knack for starting or getting involved in projects that just MADE you listen. I'm not stroking him because he's dead; I've always felt that way, because that was always the impact that Sound Garden, Temple of the Dog, Audio Slave and his solo project's always had on me. God rest the man. It's unfortunate that genuine talent is morbidly overlooked while it's here. He's not like Michael Jackson, or Prince. Critics didn't pander to him or the bands he was involved in while he was here and his projects sure as shit never got as much air time. I don't expect that any stations will be playing Temple, Audioslave, or Sound Garden anymore than they typically would. What really blows is they were working on a new studio album...Chris buying the farm kinda shot that right in the ass; unpolished though it might be I hope, and pray they release what they managed ti finish is the minuscule ammount if time they had to work on it.
