This is excellent. I have a son with a learning disability. He was never taught how to sound out his words they just threw sight words at him. That hurt him, not helped him. So now he guesses when he reads a word he doesn't know instead of sounding it out. Any suggestions on how to help him. I have to take him from the beginning with small words.
Love it so much!!! Please make more videos. Maybe from A.B.C n a group of A associated words. Then b .... Please thanks

Great tips for adding visual cues to segment words and avoiding adding the "schwa" vowel sound to consonant sounds. One thing I would recommend is checking out "Uncovering the Logic of English" book which explains 98% of the English language into specific rules. This includes explaining how "was" is not a sight word but can be explained phonetically. "S" has two sounds /s/ and /z/. So in "was" the S says its second sound /z/. I'm in the US where we replace many vowel sounds in a word with the "schwa" sound /u/. The A in "was" says its schwa sound /u/. For struggling readers, explaining all the rules of the English language (that are not taught in most school) and the use of the "schwa" for vowel sounds can make all the difference. I speak from experience as some with dyslexia and now teaching my dyslexia son how to read. Memorizing sight words doesn't work.

Lovely Video clip! Sorry for butting in, I would appreciate your thoughts. Have you heard the talk about - Riysaballer Salient Recognition (just google it)? It is an awesome one of a kind guide for teaching your child to read without the headache. Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my best friend Jordan got astronomical success with it.

so how do you introduce to children digraph and trigraph without using the terminology. Especially while sounding the words with trigraphs eg; sight, in this case how do you explain -igh is a trigraph without using the term itself? I've heard some use the term " Tricky sound"
@LittleLearnersVideos5 жыл бұрын
I would always use the terminology, my students have always known what a digraph or trigraph is. At that age, learning a word like 'digraph' is no different to learning any other word. Some teachers use terms like tricky words, maybe tricky sounds, but u prefer to use the terminology with the children 😊
