I remember watching this excellent series , and often wondered why it has never been repeated , with such an international cast or why it has never been released to dvd , following of the success of the powerful t v series “ strumpet city “

It's wonderful to see a few reminders of a great summer - the year was 1981, not 82 - and to see so many of those who got involved in the creative fun of being an actor, even for a day. I had the good fortune to have a very small part, as did most of my family, and there were many very moving scenes re-enacted in the village. The most impressive of these had to be the moment when General Humbert declared Killala 'La premiere ville de la Republique d''Irlande'. It was as close as we could possibly get to that August day in 1798...

Maeve Tierney Hi Do you know anyone who has an old VHS copy of the Year of the French series? It's impossible to get off RTE because of rights with the French company who co produced it and went bust.

Ha Liam,. Thank you for posting this vid,. Like many other locals in and around killala some of my family members were included in the film making,. très heureux d'être tombé sur votre belle vidéo, en recherchant la musique du groupe Chieftains. J'ai bien sûr le livre de Thomas Flanagan et, avec ma famille, nous nous sommes rendus sur les lieux de cette magnifique épopée. Le seul bémol est le fait que je n'ai pas pu me procurer la K7 de ce beau téléfilm. Pouvez-vous me dire où je pourrais m'en procurer une copie?
