I listen to these girls more now than I did back in the 80's. I think as a kid back then I didn't really realize we had it so good music wise. When I saw The Jones Girls in concert I was mesmerized. I didn't want them to stop. They're definitely my favorite female group of all time. Keep it coming Shirley. We miss Brenda and Valerie ❤️🙏

Yes, the original was recorded by “The Stylistics”. Both groups did a wonderful job in their own style. The stylistics did it 1st in the 70’s & the Jones Girls re-recorded it in the 80’s. Both groups were produced by Kenneth Gamble & Leon Huff of Philadelphia international records.

Russell Thompkins was the only Stylistic to actually sing on the records. Producer Thom Bell hated the other Stylistics’ voices. So the actual background singers on all of the first three albums that Thom Bell produced were: Carl Helm, Bunny Sigler, Kenny Gamble, Phil Hurtt, and Thom Bell himself. Additional background vocals were done by Linda Creed, Barbara Ingram,Carla Benson,and Yvette Benton. Russell also did some background vocals as well.

Tommy also did the same with the Delfonics background album recorded at Cameo-Parkway future site of Philly Intl. 309 South Broad, before Sigma was opened. Once Sigma opened you can really hear Bell, Sigler etc., on Thom Bell produced Delfonic songs. Children of the night, by the Stylistics may be my favorite Philly song because of the instrumental part.

The men in the industry wouldn't even let women who look like this in the door right now. A certain look was pushed out. Then they want to turn around and blame women. The music suffers because of the wrong priorities.
