Proving - if proof were needed - that Waseda Setsuryo belong in the top tier of Japanese HS bands. Whether in concert or marching, in all kinds of weather and over challenging terrain , I suspect this band could play in a telephone kiosk ! Many thanks to Orange Devils Fan for another super upload. Hopefully we will see this Excellent band again before this year is out. GO WASEDA SETSURYO !!!

Jay, this site where they are playing looks familiar??? KT school, or just common site, where all bands play? TKS
In terms of technical proficiency, this High School band ranks amongst the best. However, the overall impression is of a military band trying hard at times to be something else. Performing dance steps whilst wearing uniform doesn’t work. The clash is perhaps most obvious at 21:34. We see cold military dexterity, with musical instruments held like weapons; straight out of military academy. Then suddenly the band plays “Les Champs Elysées”, a piece of Gallic charm that in spirit is the opposite of military. The contrast shocks. And then comes an attempt to convey warmth with well-choreographed but stiff dance steps. The piece requires caps to be removed and their enforced presence on the floor is a constant reminder that the band’s ethos remains military. Most jarring of all is to see a senior high school band led by a middle-aged Drum Major. It is as if the school doesn’t trust the band members to produce one of their own. Sad.

The style of this band can be seen in its history. The origin of this band is Hankyu Shonen Ongakutai, who performed stage marching for the first time in the world and was established in 1957. Hankyu Shonen Ongakutai is Hankyu Boys Band. The Japanese brass band at that time was greatly influenced by the military band of the US Army, which is the occupation army. And this band was a band that consisted of only boys until 1997. From these points, I think that the style of this band has now been decided. The middle-aged drum major, who was from the Hankyu Shonen Band, also taught this band after graduating. But when he was 29, the band suddenly disbanded. At the age of 29, he entered a university, studied hard, acquired a teacher's license, and taught marching in high school. That will be the current Waseda Seturyo High School Wind Band. He loved marching and said he learned what he needed in life from marching. I don't know if my intention was correctly conveyed in poor English, but please forgive me.

@@soundofwindband8324 Thank you very much for this detailed and well-informed explanation. By the way, poor English is difficult to understand. Your English is perfectly understood. Therefore, your English is good, not poor. In contrast, I am very sorry not to speak any Japanese at all. And thank you for all your work in bringing to the rest of the world the amazing talent of Japan's best student brass bands.
