Thank you for sharing. One question though as you do install an isolated wall then why to use resilient channel since the timber frame is already isolated from the other walls and ceiling and floor. It seems to that it increases materials and labour cost with no added value. I would understand that resilient channel with add If used directly on the existing wall.

Hi Fred, How you getting on with the renovation? The frame, just like the channels and just like the rubber and all the other materials do not barrier the noise alone. The more layers and combination of different layers you use the more reduction in noise you will get. However you will get to a point where you have to install a lot of layers to get a little bit more reduction in noise (law of diminishing returns) We have found having the resilient bars as well gives a better result than not having them.

What can I use instead of the mass loaded vinyl? I can't really find MLV in my country.

Hi @andreilup6023, where about you from? I might be able to suggest an alternative.

What Decibel reduction do you get with the 20mm Rubber versus the MLV?
@jimprior7
@jimprior7 11 ай бұрын
The MLV and 20mm rubber work in different ways, the MLV will barrier the noise when used in the right way and best used in conjunction with other products like Rockwool and between two sheets of acoustic plasterboard. We find that if you put 10kg/m2 MLV to the wall directly like we do the 20mm rubber it can channel the noise into other rooms like the 30mm panels do. (just what we find) This is not the case for TecSound. We find the 20mm rubber dampens the walls better and reduces higher frequencies and reduces impact noise too when you apply it to the brick/block/concrete wall first. The difference with and without the 20mm rubber is very noticeable to the human ear.

What holds the stud frame in place? it wasn't really explained, so it has no fixings to anything its just sort of wedged in?
@jimprior7
@jimprior7 10 ай бұрын
Great question, the frame is sometimes only screwed in a couple of places on the head plate and sole plate and often glued or sometimes with the right property, no fixings and just pressure and the pads. (That’s 19 years’ experience of installing it though to do that!) What is your noise problem? Do you need a thick wall system like the floating frame? We show you exactly how to install it on the larger DIY soundproofing course: The Noise Free DIY Soundproofing Course. The intake is full this week, you can join the waiting list on the link below: jimprior.com/diycourse/ Hope that helps 👍

Hi Jim. What precautions did you take to safely cut into the artex? I've got artex in the 1970s terrace house, I'm not sure how to deal with it.
@jimprior7
@jimprior7 11 ай бұрын
Hey Mikey, for this particular case the homeowners had it tested a while ago, so we knew it was ok and our installers always wear masks anyway. If you happen to find out that you have the white asbestos in your artex and you do not want the disruption of removing it. From a soundproofing perspective I would recommend cutting open the floors from above to get to the area above the ceiling…and consider two layers of 15mm sound bloc board over the top of the artex ceiling to reduce the flanking noise from rooms diagonally above. For you Mikey, you may want to leave it alone, take the wall system up to the ceiling and when you do the upstairs tuck the layers down below the floor to meet the ceiling. If you are unsure about your artex always check with an asbestos specialist first.

@@jimprior7 next door and I have VERY different taste in music 😞 I want to be able to play guitar and mix music, as you know you tend to listen to the same song over and over again when you're mixing. And I'd rather not have to listen to their EDM.

However, I don't know how long I'll be staying here. I might just live with it till I move house, and turn that into my forever home. If I get a semi detached, I'll only need to soundproof the one party wall.

Hey Anna, 😂, Sorry I have just upgraded my microphones and camera so the older videos will need the volume up and the newer ones really loud. After building 100s of studios I have finally got round to sorting my own studio acoustic out.

Sorry to winge. And yes that's always the way. I don't know who you went to for advice I personally like Podcaststage and Booth Junkie. As I said I am going to fix my problems by installing an Alesis 3630 compressor at my end so I can noise gate the issue. And as I said this KZbin fault as they should implement a noise gate so that all KZbin videos are within an acceptable range. If they are happy to downgrade video that has been uploaded at 4K then they are perfectly capable of applying a sound envelope to any video that is uploaded. And I may well be in touch about asking you to at least consult on how we need to handle noise in my home. My ground floor is going to be gutted due to flooding (despite it being about 100 metres above any river or stream) and to quote Biden we are trying to build it back better! So hopefully talk to you soon

You may well be hearing from us. As your an hour up the M40 from us. I wont lie, I will be asking other companies for options. And it will have to go through our architechs but you are only an hour up the M40 from us according to wayze. MThe problem I have is that I am the neighbour from hell. I was already fairly deaf but I have damaged my hearing trying to change the frequency so I bother my neighbor's less. Part of the problem has been KZbin not limiting to within a consitent range. So you get channels that are quite followed by channels that are using sound compression to be as noisy as possible and I don't notice that the dB has suddenly gone up, without my noticing it. In the past national broadcasters would correct all their output to the same level. But not KZbin, they need to be repeatedly sued & have to pay for the damage they have caused before they start to noisegate there output I after many years of looking I have found out what I need to reduce the problem and thats apparently an alesis 3630 compressor. But thats just a fix for the TV, I still make a mountain of noise, that effects everybody who lives near me. I live in a thin 1970's terraced house. So losing inches of the wall is annoying but its the only possible solution. So in time I hope to isolate my home to isolate my home to as much as possible make my home like it was a studio space. I don't have the space to do a room within a room

Anna, we do offer an installation service, but I mainly promote my soundproofing education course on this KZbin channel....as you can see we follow a method with our installations and it's not cheap, not sure if you are within our catchment area. This might help you with your research.... How Much does soundproofing costs? kzbin.info/www/bejne/m3i1hIKgrrdletUsi=LnPE6jGs0m2Q-ZdC (This is an old video adjust the volume)
